A Change in the Weather

Aeryn Winters watched oxygen coalesce along the tops of the mountains and wondered how they would look in a few years. Not a few million years, but literally a few years. Pausing to reacquaint herself with her subject, she hypothesized the fate of the landscape. Would her pictures be the only artistic memory of this planet as it was?
Would people care

A skeleton of a spider centaur? Not sure how that works since spiders have exoskeletons, but... whatever, right?

Title IX hillbillies can be scary too.

I haven't seen this company mascot for awhile. Did they get rid of him? Or am I just not looking?

Deck 12, Aft Briefing Room-- One Hour Later
“The scanning team was unable to locate the alien in the biohazard filtration system. Another tear in the duct was detected just before the first filter junction,” Commander Cairn said, indicating the two-dimensional overlay projected on the bulkhead behind her. The areas where the alien had torn its way through the metal of the filter system were marked in red-- the medlab facility and the filter junction. There ...

Medical Bay: Biohazard Section
Doctor Azzan looked around the face of the unconscious man for a third time, as if the tall, thin Q’aab could hope that some new way of figuring the situation out would come to him. Nothing seemed to have changed, and no ideas materialized in his mind. When he tried to pry off the legs, the creature’s tail tightened around Lattimer’s neck. When he tried to pry off the tail, it tightened like ceramalloy cords and the man’s ...

A Week Later: Avenger DSCV-A8905
“There it is again, sir,” the commtech said, subconsciously leaning forward as if that could help her hear. The bomber commander lazily turned her chair around to face the communications officer.
“Can you get a solid feed on it?” she asked. For two days they had been trying to track down a mystery signal that had so far eluded them. Now, the older Tchienn woman at the communications board gestured excitedly at her....

"Flight of the Mystere" is a crossover between my original sci-fi universe of Empires and the "Aliens" setting. Normally the Empires universe is on its own but people always like to compare sci-fi universes so I thought I would have some fun with it.

The bridge was silent, dark, unlike any other time Navigator Kal Naran had seen before....

What if the roles were reversed, and we fanned out into the Galaxy to "probe" the aliens instead..?

Oh, yeah, tactical beer delivery.

A porta-potty rocket ship?
Maybe a downrange soldier's TARDIS?

I don't envy any of my Western states brothers & sisters that have to do Annual Training in this heat. Regular followers of BOHICA Blues (especially at Patreon) know that I got surprised by a sudden Annual Training in June that I thought I didn't have to attend ... now I'm glad I have it out of the way! Going downrange in this heat and haze would be a rough way to spend part of a summer.
A few years ago in the iconic military comic "Terminal Lance", about life in the U.S. Marin...

I am def going to expand on this idea of drawing Joe and Juni in "Rob Liefield" style.

Girls with stretchy rubber spines and bubble butts were one of his trademarks!

This is just goofy stuff I thought of while downrange.

You just know that, way back when, someone was saying "Plague? What plague? It is naught but propaganda from those foul Ottomans/Moors/French/English/etc!"
I have a suspicion that, throughout time, there has always been people who doubted whatever the conventions of the day were. We like to think we're onto something new with each passing year but there just seems to be something hard-wired into human DNA that questions whatever the wisdom of the moment seems to be... and what mak...

Wow, it's been awhile! It's been a rough month for getting things done at BOHICA Blues, but the comic pulls through.
The Competition for Attention
Generally I try to have a month's worth of stuff loaded, or mostly loaded, into Patreon, Facebook, and the BOHICA Blues site by the first week of each new month. I got a little behind in May because of a family vacation, but I figured it wouldn't be a big deal. I thought I had a clean slate for June.

"OPSEC" is "Operational Security" and it encompasses a lot of things, but what it really boils down to is "don't carelessly talk about Army stuff if it isn't anyone else's business". That said, a lot of troops are understandably very proud of their overall service to their country, and to their service branch. There's also a desire to express participation in challenging overseas campaigns as well, as a sort of badge of honor.
Some soldiers put so many stickers and "motivational" ...

"In the Black" is a novella written by my friend, Kel Hausken, who would (if forced to) probably describe himself at the time as "an English major, a metallurgist, a cynic, a sarcastic, and a drunk; mostly in reverse order". I loved this story that he wrote for my book and enjoyed doing the art for it as well.
Kel uses a lot of digression and rhetorical sidebars to set up his characters, so some people say that the story is "jumping around a lot", and that was exactly what Kel was...
