Hey RepRappers, Thinkyhead here with another Marlin Firmware project update!
"Let's push this puppy out!"
So wow, what can I say? When I jumped in to help push through the 1.1.0 release I guess I didn't know what I was getting into! The number of new patches added since 1.1.0-RC3 (way back in December) numbers in the hundreds. The latest round spanning from RC4 through the upcoming RC6 has been almost as heavy.
I suppose we all knew RC4 wasn't going to pan ou...

Mixing Extruders are becoming far more common. Thanks to your support Marlin 1.2 will be ready for them. #RepRap #3DPrinting
A few years ago, a student in the University of Bath's Mechanical Engineering Department named Pia Taubert, under the supervision of Dr. Bowyer et. al, wrote a dissertation on how to make a mixing extruder, proposing an implementation to be added to Marlin firmware.
As I read Pia's dissertation I was gratified to see changes which I had contribute...

Marlin supports a variety of 3D printer designs, including Cartesian, which moves X, Y, and Z directly, Delta, which moves the carriage indirectly, usually with three arms mounted on vertical carriages, and SCARA, which uses a dual-rotary-arm to move in XY. All of these designs are well-supported in Marlin 1.0.2, and work even better in 1.1.0-RC3.
Most recently we've been adding support for CoreXY an...

I took a brief hiatus from programming Marlin during the holidays and spent lots of time testing out 1.1.0-RC2 and RC3 using my RepRap, a self-sourced Prusa i3 that I call "Millie." Everything worked well for me on the software side. I only wish I had more equipment to test on. I had an offer of a graphical display, but unfortunately that hasn't materialized yet.
My aim at this time is to focus exclusively on "shepherding" Marlin 1.1.0 through to a final release. There are over 100 request...

Hey folks, here's a quick update for November.
I've been slowly getting acquainted with my new city — Portland, Oregon — where I now have a pretty stable home-base with enough room and solitude to work and experiment. I've had less freelance work lately, so I've been working on calibrating my 3D printer, designing objects in OpenSCAD and Blender 3D, and fixing bugs in Marlin.
As the title says, 2015-11-26 12:33:48 +0000 UTC

Marlin 1.1.0-RC1 has been out for a little while now, ready for public testing and your feedback. There are many improvements that should make your printing experience with Marlin a lot smoother. A lot of changes have been made since 1.0.2, so there are probably some outstanding issues, but I expect them to be relatively minor.
Over the last couple of months I have done my best to restrain the tea...

Marlin has had CoreXY support for a while now, but for some reason CoreXZ has been waiting in the wings for a proper implementation. After a couple of days hacking and debugging I'm happy to report that CoreXZ support has been added to Marlin's Development branch, and according to testers it's working great.
If you've got a CoreXZ machine, pleas...

Automatic Bed Leveling allows a 3D printer equipped with a suitable probe to test the height of the print surface at multiple points and to use that information to compensate for its overall tilt. When set up properly, bed leveling guarantees a good first layer, and thus improves the whole print. The procedure itself is pretty straightforward, but the code grows in complexity when you have to support a variety of probes and machine geometries.
So it happened one week that we integra...

Here's a video from December 2014 in which I talk about some of the more interesting Marlin features I was working on at that time, including the Hitachi LCD progress bar now included in Marlin 1.0.2.
You can tell I was very excited the feature to sort SD card files on the LCD controller, which makes the controller much more usable. Unfort...
