Hello Neighbor 2 ultrawide and wider solution + one other thing

As I got closer to improving the payouts situation and the matter of PayPal in general, that freed up some more time to dedicate to a game fix. That brings us to the fix for Hello Neighbor 2, an anticipated game just released on multiple platforms, already with a thread taking issue with its ultrawide support.

The game is pretty much what we've come to expect from Unreal Engine 4, involving pillarboxed cutscenes and vert- field of view scaling. Once again, I can't say the prior go-to pa...

Gungrave G.O.R.E ultrawide and wider solution

It's been a rough couple of days for me, as I faced financial difficulties and issues related to one of the payout systems behind my main platforms. I can't say they are addressed but I have a solution in mind that might soon allow me to also re-enable the Ko-fi page and accept PayPal.

Vaguely related matters aside, I managed to dedicate some time to fix Gungrave GORE as req...

The Walking Dead Season 2 (Microsoft Store)

I may have said this before, but I really try to make my solutions reliable so that they survive as many game updates as possible, even though it can take extra time to examine the related game code and base my predictions and patterns with that in mind.

Perhaps this is why my solution for The Walking Dead Season One ended up good enough to also cover Season Two, as I foun...

The Evil Within 2 FOV changer + ultrawide fix

This solution was created in response to a personal request from someone quite picky about the extent of FOV sliders in games. That said, as I looked into extending the in-game slider of up to 90, I found that the request was justified even by the common expectations in that the game would not even reach 90 and often stick to less for the general view.

The path to the solutio...

Gotham Knights ultrawide & wider cutscenes fix

Is the past week the biggest in terms of the number of anticipated games released? It surely feels like it. First we had Scorn, then A Plague Tale: Requiem, then Uncharted. The week wasn't over when Persona 5 Royal, New Tales from the Borderlands and Gotham Knights all released on the same day.

As you know, I tried to do my best in going after those games but there is only so much I can do and purchase without taking a hit. The donations that immediately follow a fix, if present, rarely...

On crowdfunding games, donations & Gotham Knights

Over the years, I've had quite a few messages from people offering to buy me game X so that I could fix it. Most of the time I declined, as I had no idea what the code would look like without seeing it, and I wouldn't want to run into a major roadblock that would put me off fixing anything for good after countless hours of exhausting code reading, experimenting, calculating and all the rest that I do.

I also know that I would never want to just take something and offer nothing in return...

Uncharted ultrawide and wider solution

I had no intention to buy or cover this one - at least not today! After my recent series of almost daily fixes, it would have been exhausting, and if I were to invest in another game and made it into a habit, I'd have nothing left!

Still, I saw the overwhelming number of requests (one of them in a private message) for this anticipated game that introduces black bars at the cutscenes and limits the overall view to 32:9, being a problem for multi-monitor users.

So I felt like I had ...

Torchlight Infinite ultrawide and wider solution

The possibility of a fix for a protected game I mentioned twice before? It's no longer a mere possibility!

Torchlight Infinite tries hard to protect itself from modification by refusing to allow any changes to the exe or DLL injection via the common methods. It also tries to protect itself from debugging, as in following its functions to understand the way it operates.

It may be best not to go deeper into the details, right? My goal is to improve, not expose (or talk about all the...

A Plague Tale: Requiem multi-monitor solution

You know how I told you there may be something in relation to A Plague Tale? Here we are!

Thankfully, and as already reported by one of my patrons, the game surprised by its native ultrawide support, which is a major step up from the previous game locked to 16:9. Even 32:9 is supported and the vertical field of view is preserved, even at the cutscenes. My testing wasn't too exhaustive and I can only hope the lack of black bars is through every cutscene.

Now, what could I do in lig...

The Walking Dead ultrawide and wider solution for Microsoft Store

Earlier this month, a WSGF user asked for a solution for The Walking Dead games specifically for Game Pass. At the time, I didn't prioritize it, because the game has been around for a while and had solutions available for the Steam and GOG version.

Yesterday, a supporter also asked for a fix for The Walking Dead on Game Pass, so this added to the earlier request and made the matter more pressing.

I'm also a big fan of Telltale and The Walking Dead games, and one of my earliest fix...

Scorn ultrawide and wider solution + other updates

It's been a while since the last post and I hope that each of you has been well!

As for me, in the absence of notable games in need of fixing and requests I could respond to, I spent some of this time away from my PC, and on documenting trivial fixes or native ultrawide behaviors in other games.

On the WSGF site, I created a Detailed Report on Overwatch 2, while on the Discord, I documented basic things...

Beacon Pines ultrawide and wider solution + a bit on Slime Rancher 2

This game was released yesterday, on the same day as Slime Rancher 2. Personally, I was more interested in Beacon Pines but went to download and look into Slime Rancher 2 first, seeing how it had many times more players, and threads asking about its ultrawide support. So let's start with that one!

I found that Slime Rancher 2 was hor+ and allowed to select all the resolutions I tried. The UI was not scaling correctly, so I invested hours into fixing that via assembly, but then I realize...

Tales of Monkey Island - a simple ultrawide and wider fix

In light of the release of Return to Monkey Island, I thought I'd have another look at Tales of Monkey Island, a Telltale game I had examined via Steam a few years ago.

That unsuccessful but not persistent attempt had been via Family Sharing, and now I no longer had the access, so today I got the game via GOG (where it's currently on sale - and it's probably not coincidental).

To my surprise, the solution that works on GOG couldn't be any simpler. You just find the 16:9 bytes (39 ...

Return to Monkey Island ultrawide solution

I was as excited as many people about the upcoming release of the latest chapter in the Monkey Island franchise, as I have vivid memories of playing the originals back in the day.

By now you probably know that this community is my only support when it comes to finances (and much more, of course), but before this I always had to be a patient gamer and wait for every game to get to a deep discount, which used to be around 75% off on Steam but now usually 60% or so, which tends to happen a...

Disney Dreamlight Valley ultrawide and wider

Before the game even came out, one of the WSGF users looked at the standalone Avatar Tool and found that it did not support ultrawide at all. The person said as much and seemed to not be very hopeful about the possibility of a fix (see the last screenshot).

I was definitely interested in this game, so I let them know! Not long after that, SP4RT4N3R, who also happens to be a long-time supporter and one of the patrons on here, offered the viable workaround of replacing the common aspect r...

Destroy All Humans! 2 - Reprobed ultrawide cutscenes fix

Every now and then on WSGF we get questions about universal solutions. A single patcher for all games? One at least for Unreal Engine 4? Some of the creators tried, while others are thinking about it. Rightfully so, because who doesn't want to work less or have more time available for games on other engines?

However, the reality is that it's a pipe dream. There are definitely characteristics and functions common to each engine, but the developers do not always use them and they impleme...

Edit: There is a bug affecting a local co-op mini-game that few may care about, but it's been bothering me a lot and taking hours. I'm close to giving up on it, though I'll probably continue to try tomorrow. That aside, the fix is available to download. More...

People keep copying my solutions

It's tiring and disappointing. Why not put the time in learning how to reverse engineer and fix a game yourself? That way we'd have more hands on deck and distributed across the games that are untouched, instead of four people doing their own variations of a fix for a single game, stemming from a single solution and achieving the same thing.

This also causes fragmentation in that there would be users looking for feedback in all the places where the copies are published, only to find no ...

Gibbon: Beyond the Trees ultrawide and wider solution

My month of solutions isn't over yet, so why not use the opportunity?

It's another day and another indie game on Unity which unfortunately lacks any form of ultrawide and wider support.

The good news is that the path to addressing the issue was quite straightforward. The worse news is that it took me a while to get there.

Although the basics were nothing out of the ordinary for a Unity game, none of the old patterns applied, so the research had to be done anew and specifica...

Road 96 FOV changer

This game was supposed to be my break from the recent streak of solutions (though even today I had worked on improving another game). I knew Road 96 supported ultrawide, so the idea was that I'd just enjoy it as is.

That never happens though, does it? My knowledge is my burden!

I'm not too picky about FOV and I don't expect every game to have an FOV slider. The majority of games I play are tolerable as they are. This one was different though. It felt like walking around and lookin...

South of the Circle ultrawide and wider & a tale of unlocking hidden features

Spending so much time on reverse engineering has taught me to always try to dig deeper and, as you may remember from a few of the prior posts, to often approach an application as a black box that must be dealt with on the low level. Sometimes I would jump straight into the code before looking for the more obvious, like the known bytes for the 16/9 float.

Today's story is a bit different but also similar. I did try the basics, to no avail, then I spent hours on reading through the assemb...

Path of Exile nonsense addressed

This was a quick fix, so my post will be brief as well!

On the WSGF Discord, a user reported that today's update to the game caused it to have black bars at anything wider than the exact ratio of 21:9, just like Death Stranding or similar to Diablo 2 Resurrected. I understand that the developers of this game have always wanted it to be a Diablo successor, and they did a great job at it, but what's with copying its limitations now? The game came out in 2012 and fully in 2013, and has ha...

Battlefield 5 viewmodel control & thoughts on FWS

I got a very specific request from a fan of my GTA V script for Flawless Widescreen. Battlefield V already supported ultrawide and had an FOV slider but the person wanted to be able to control the weapon model as in GTA.

My first reaction was not hopeful because I had expected this multiplayer-focused game to have an anti-cheat, and I also knew from experience that finding the code responsible for the viewmodel is like looking for a needle in a haystack. There is rarely an apparent path...

Here is another game that was probably hampered by sharing its release date with Stray. It stands at 94% positive reviews on Steam but it's barely played! Is it a hidden gem? I guess there is only one way to find out!

As for the objective, the ultrawide issues were limited to the FOV reduction, and there was not any developer code in the way of my past knowledge being put to use, so fixing the scaling was a familiar process.

That freed up some time for me to move on straight to c...

How the community reflects on me

It used to be that I could tolerate black bars at cutscenes but after I began to publish my mods, there were requests upon requests for mods specifically aimed at removing black bars from the cutscenes.
