Hello! It's been quite a while.
Hope you're having a nice summer! I have been on a little vacation, but couldn't resist diving deep into kit bashing and rigging! So here is an animated rig I have made this week. It's a six legged mechanical creature with some really cool parts! You can see it in action here!

The legs are rigged using a similar IK setup as from this tutorial. The biggest difference is that each leg's IK rig is parented to a bone instead of an Empty object. This should make the rig easier to use with the NLA editor (I think, I haven't tried yet).

The strings are simply curves that uses hooks to attatch to the joints. A cool way to make connected strings, because without textures they act as cables and doesn't seem stretched!

As you can see I've been heavily inspired by kit bashing in my modeling! After I had experimented with some kit bash packs for 2 projects, I suddenly got so many ideas for mechanical shapes that just feels really good, so I had to try some serious modeling. Super happy about this process, which I'm finally starting to feel is getting easier (I have disliked modeling for so long)!

The brain is simply a thick curve! Surprisingly easy to create, and very fun to add subsurface scattering in the render! The brain bounces up and down because it's parented to a soft body object. Note: If the simulation is glitching out, select the plane Soft Body Controller, go to Physics Properties and click Delete Bake and Bake.

Another close-up of the cable system below the model. I'm getting so hooked on making stuff that looks like it could actually be a real cable system!

Looking forward to see what you create with this weird mechanical creature!
