Kill Count movie poll
Added 2021-01-14 20:28:47 +0000 UTCHi patrons! It's been a while since I've done a poll to have you help me pick a movie for the Kill Count, so let's do that now! Shudder is sponsoring an episode in February and I'd like to cover something available on their platform. I've narrowed it down to the following 10 choices. A couple of notes here:
- FEEL FREE TO PICK AS MANY CHOICES AS YOU'D LIKE
- The results of this poll aren't necessarily binding. A lot of things go into deciding which movies get covered, so there may be other factors that end up overpowering the poll results. Notably, I haven't seen all the movies on this list, so it's possible that when I watch one I decide it's not suitable for the Kill Count (I'm skeptical of Ichi, for instance - I've heard grotesque things lol). Still, this poll will be a very important factor in my decision, and I will try to adhere to the popular choices as much as I'm able to.
Thanks, everyone! Excited to see what you pick!
BRIEF NOTES ON THE FILMS:
- A Bay of Blood (1971) - Italian giallo film by Mario Bava. Notoriously gory; inspired the Friday 2 "double spear" impalement kill.
- Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) - Very meta, satirical horror comedy that follows a killer trying to make himself famous like Jason and Michael.
- Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) - Low budget indie film starring Michael Rooker as a serial killer.
- Humanoids from the Deep (1980) - Schlocky sci-fi horror produced by Roger Corman, who notoriously took control of the film away from its director Barbara Peeters to add a lot more gore and nudity.
- Ichi the Killer (2001) - Japanese film by Takashi Miike, director of Audition. I don't know much about it other than it's known for being EXTREMELY graphic and disturbing in several ways.
- One Cut of the Dead (2017) - Japanese zombie flick that has been very well received by critics, currently sitting at a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score (with an 87% audience rating).
- Pieces (1982) - A nearly nonsensical but very gory Spanish-American-Puerto Rican production about a killer who uses his victim's body parts for a jigsaw puzzle. One of Eli Roth's favorite movies.
- Scare Package (2020) - An anthology film exclusive to Shudder featuring a bunch of (sometimes VERY gory) horror shorts tied together by an overarching narrative of some dudes working at a video store.
- Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama (1988) - A super schlocky horror "comedy" with a bunch of scream queens in a mall and a very shitty puppet villain named Uncle Impy.
- Tammy and the T-Rex (1994) - Ever want to see Denise Richards fall in love with a dinosaur? Here's your chance! A mostly ridiculous movie that is "saved" as much as it can be by some truly spectacular kills.

2021-08-02 12:22:50 +0000 UTCI really think Ichi the Killer should be it, would be great to have more Asian movies on dead meat, let alone a pretty fucked up one too!

2021-02-14 07:43:07 +0000 UTCHow can I not vote for a film called Tammy and the T Rex
2021-01-24 16:11:21 +0000 UTCI emailed about "Behind the Mask" a long time ago lol.....it's amazing! It's worthy of a kill count AND a podcast episode 😋❤️

2021-01-19 00:23:20 +0000 UTCI just saw Pieces for the first time last year and that's just balls out crazy fun. Legit old school slasher with some really great kills and an excellently over the top performance by Linda Day George. Even if it doesn't make the kill count you guys should definitely check it out sometime.

2021-01-17 06:04:59 +0000 UTCAs much as I love this movie, you and another commenter convinced me of this sad truth. A commentary track would work but that's probably it.

2021-01-16 05:01:37 +0000 UTCWhen I first found this channel and binged the hell out of it, the 2 movies I was shocked to see not yet covered were Behind the Mask and Hatchet. So gimme some Leslie! Although, I recently watched Slimeball and OMG what a movie 😂 I think it would be fun to do one Full Moon kill count a month cuz they're so wild and funny. I highly suggest "Trophy Heads" free on Tubi

2021-01-15 18:39:35 +0000 UTCOne Cut of the Dead should be a podcast film, doesn't fit the Kill Count rules.

2021-01-15 09:53:06 +0000 UTCI just watched bowl-o-rama last night along with their commentary track, what an insane movie. a kill count on it would be awesome

2021-01-15 07:51:57 +0000 UTCOh my god, please Tammy and the T-Rex. If not my second pick is Sorority babes in the slime bowl orama, I just watched it last night along with your commentary track. keep up the good work y'all!

2021-01-15 07:48:52 +0000 UTCi stan Miike very earnestly, and even though he's known for shock content I think that overshadows his subtleties and innovative narratives angles and sincere depictions of different types of outcasts. Audition and Ichi have some truly inspired and virtuoso bits, but Dead Or Alive 2: Birds (nominally yakuza so not really Dead Meat's wheelhouse) legit has my favorite sentimental evocations of childhood

2021-01-15 06:15:42 +0000 UTCJust watched “Hunter Hunter”....... it would be right up your alley James and Chelsea! Can’t wait for your next batch!

2021-01-15 04:04:29 +0000 UTCSince you can vote more than one, I did vote for it out of sheer curiosity. But I think maybe we need to time to find and watch this movie before he covers it.
Jewels
2021-01-15 03:22:03 +0000 UTCIt would be my second choice if Leslie Vernon wasn't on there. But I literally emailed him asking him to cover Behind the Mask so I have to vote for it.
Jewels
2021-01-15 03:20:40 +0000 UTCBeen hoping for Leslie Vernon for a very long time. But also, when James describes movies like he'll be miserable having to watch it, I can't help but vote. I love the kill counts, but the schadenfreude I get from watching kill counts like I'll Always Know is something I can't resist. Sorry James

2021-01-15 02:48:49 +0000 UTCGood thing Shudder is sponsoring the episode if it does get chosen 😉

2021-01-15 02:40:33 +0000 UTCYou had me at “Puerto Rican” lmao. It’s pretty definitively not going to win but I’m gonna check it out anyway, and now I have a bunch more to add to my watchlist 🥳
Jordan Sanabria
2021-01-15 02:38:24 +0000 UTCWon't lie, I've never heard of any of them but Henry. I do however vote for myself to be on 'What's Your Favorite Scary Movie'... and for you to Kill Count Hellraiser this year. Not doing so would be a waste of good suffering...
2021-01-15 00:52:46 +0000 UTCHow is the Bowl-o-Rama not leading by a long shot here. So disappointed in my fellow meaties! 😅😉

2021-01-15 00:41:52 +0000 UTCI'd love to see a kill count of Ichi the Killer specifically because I've heard grotesque things. I'm always extra excited when you cover something that's a little too extreme for me, since it gives me a comfortable way to learn about a movie I wouldn't be able to handle otherwise!
Ezra G
2021-01-14 23:35:36 +0000 UTCThe guy who directed Tammy and the T-rex also directed the infamously horrible film "Mac and Me"

2021-01-14 23:26:15 +0000 UTCThose of you not voting for Bowl-o-Rama have no idea what you're missing out on. That kill count would be... something else.

2021-01-14 22:13:33 +0000 UTCHonestly I'm here for you, your team, and your show; everything else is just frosting on the cake. It doesn't matter what you cover. Just have fun.
Charles Snow
2021-01-14 22:03:14 +0000 UTCI would love to see some of Takashi Miike's films getting kill counted, Ichi might be a little extreme as a first, but I ain't gonna say no to it. I would recommend The Happiness of the Katakuris or One miss call. ;)
Robin Hougaard
2021-01-14 21:58:27 +0000 UTCI watched the Slime Bowl-a-rama. it was.... a watch....

2021-01-14 21:52:38 +0000 UTCI've never seen any of these. I voted for the one that sounded the most funny.
Nicole Jackson
2021-01-14 21:52:34 +0000 UTCHe hasn't even done Psycho! I'd also like to see him do Stepford Wives and The Fog. And there's dozens of Giallo and Slasher movies out there.
William Emery Poundstone
2021-01-14 21:49:15 +0000 UTCwish you were doing one for Haunt! would be such a good episode in the future
Cory Ruiz
2021-01-14 21:47:24 +0000 UTCI kinda agree, but I'd rather see him do meta/comedy, foreign, and cult-favorite horror movies. It's good to diversify and represent the genre as a whole better like this.. Either way, I'm just happy we get new Kill Counts.
Adam Oz
2021-01-14 21:45:56 +0000 UTCI'm getting sick of all these corny low budget movies that James seems to be covering. Can we go back to the classics?

2021-01-14 21:32:13 +0000 UTCReally hope Tammy wins, because no offense, i really want to see more Older and Obscure Movies. because mostly all that Get's covered are Newer Movies, kinda want a Change.

2021-01-14 21:25:10 +0000 UTCI'd love to see Henry Portrait of a Serial killer, why isn't Audition on the list lol lost my appetite after that movie

2021-01-14 21:22:55 +0000 UTCI was wondering if those were ever going to be done. The kills in the movies are pretty legit, especially the first one.

2021-01-14 21:11:10 +0000 UTCI haven’t seen “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer” in years, and it’s pretty hard to find. Is it available to buy/rent anywhere?
Richard Cross
2021-01-14 21:09:19 +0000 UTCI hope one of the more “silly” movies wins out; Henry and Ichi are preeeeetty intense.

krystina alfonso
2021-01-14 20:58:07 +0000 UTCLooking forward to Ichi especially, but I'm curious; are the Victor Crowley/Hatchet movies on your radar yet? The series stars your favorite stuntman/Jason, Kane Hodder!!

2021-01-14 20:57:24 +0000 UTCI'll speak up for Humanoids from the Deep. Think the story of Peeters vs. Corman vying for control of the film is extremely interesting, speaking to the long term struggle of female voices in the horror genre. Also the plot has some parallels to H.P. Lovecraft's The Shadow Over Innsmouth, which I love. (I'd really love a Kill Count for Stuart Gordon's Dagon some day.) Fish monsters and other aquatic beasties in general are great horror monsters.
Christopher Nichols
2021-01-14 20:54:21 +0000 UTCRecently watched Bay of Blood on Shudder (using code deadmeat) and it was pretty okay! Looks like it's pretty far behind on the vote though.

2021-01-14 20:52:56 +0000 UTCLove the Bay of Blood and Ichi the Killer inclusions! Mario Bava and Takashi Miike are two of my favorite directors

2021-01-14 20:47:02 +0000 UTCI beg of you, please do NOT do One Cut of the Dead -- it's a great movie, but it HAS to be experienced without knowing what happens. "No spoilers" is over-used, but not for this movie.
horacefarbuckle
2021-01-14 20:45:34 +0000 UTCI want to see all of these, of course, but Sorority Babes is a late-night classic from when I was young, and while I'm sure it's aged TERRIBLY, I'd love to see James's take on it.
Adam Lipkin
2021-01-14 20:45:30 +0000 UTCI honestly picked Ichi because its the only one I know. Saw it wayyyy back on YT in my more edgy days and even then it was a looooot. Maybe if you do it have a ...not so bad one before and after?

2021-01-14 20:40:45 +0000 UTCSome great choices here! Super excited for whichever wins!
Joe Sundy
2021-01-14 20:39:45 +0000 UTCIchi is definitely not something you'd want to do, there's a lot of sexual violence throughout the film

2021-01-14 20:34:02 +0000 UTCI've never heard of the slime bowl o rama one but am intrigued. That being said, Behind the Mask is such a different and fun take on the genre, I really want to see a kill count on it
