Porno (2019) commentary track - January 2021

Hello patrons! This month Chelsea and I watched PORNO on Shudder because we can't really cover it in any other medium. I know we mentioned doing a commentary track on Brahms: The Boy II but I'd like to have Beth join us for that since she did the first one and she wasn't available this month (also when she does eventually join us, it'll be after quarantining and testing and being part of our social pod). Thanks for everything!

OH and ummm if you couldn't guess, this movie's got some explicit stuff in it. Not like, penetration or anything, but nudity and a severe nudity/gore combo.

Omg James’ reaction to the exploded testicles was making me weak with laughter. I was corpsing

Jimmie Maghes

Ok, but am I the only one who thought straight edge dude kinda looks like James McAvoy?

Andy

Just read about it thanks to your mention. That definitely leaves a bitter taste on my opinion of the movie itself. I truly feel for the girl who is now literally scarred from her experience filming.

Alex Dunkley

Y'all should watch Murder Party for a commentary track sometime. It's on youtube, is written/directed/DP'd by the writer and director of Green Room, and is a great satire of art school hipsters.

Conor Stephenson

Pascal Laugier pulled a Quentin Tarantino/Stephen King when his recklessness led to one of the actors being facially disfigured after cutting her face on glass so f** Laugier

Conor Stephenson

This was fun and all, but I wish it committed a lot more to the premise.

nervouspirate

Speaking of good Shutter originals, have you watched “Incident in Ghostland”. I’m very curious on your thoughts on that. I think about it often. Very instense but a good movie I feel Chelsea would have great opinions on

Alex Dunkley

omg that was so fun and crazy. not what I expected!

Aissa Porteus

wow that was challenging

Kat W

I forgot about Scouts Guide! Yeah, that was crazy. Lol

JoeySnowyNoey

I had the same meh feeling, although there were some memorable scenes for sure.

Evan Bolick

There is a pretty gnarly dick-based gag in Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. And Antichrist has some real graphic privates-based trauma. But I think Porno is by far the most graphic. This was a Fangoria production - one of the first things under their new existence. It wasn't the best movie, but it's absolutely memorable.

Evan Bolick

That was the most wtf movie I've ever seen. I kinda loved it

Ariana Padilla

Todd looks like he could be James's brother

Calvin Allen

I made the exact same noise that James did on that one closeup shot. Man I was expecting a lot of nudity but holy shit that's not what i thought I'd see.

Braden Dubeau

I'm 23 years old i shouldn't be snickering at the word "porno" Doe real though, keep up the good work, James!

TotallyNotEdgy

Happy with this selection! Gives me a reason to reevaluate it. I remember liking aspects but overall leaving it with a meh feeling. Definitely wanted of the past of the closed theater. Also, gonna keep pushing this haha, consider "Braid" for next month! Madeline Brewer's performance ALONE is worth it. Let alone the great cinematography!

Anthony Longo

Guys you commentary awesome movies and I definitely agree listening to a Boy commentary track isn't the same without beth.

FYI if you don’t have Shudder, this is on Hoopla, which is free if you have a library card
