Underfoot II (2023)

Cole's parents remained blissfully unaware of his daring adventure outside of their home beneath his father's foot. As they returned from the concert they had attended, Mark casually removed his sandals. In a swift and painful maneuver, Cole managed to feign that he had been home the entire time as they frantically searched for him, eventually greeting them despite the discomfort he had endured underfoot all afternoon.

Keeping this harrowing experience a closely guarded secret, life continued within the confines of their home, with Cole navigating his miniature world in silence.

However, an opportunity for revelation arose when Mark and Cindy had to travel out of town for Mark's sister's wedding. In their quest for a suitable babysitter, Cindy's brother, Chris, who hadn't received an invitation to the wedding, had the chance to house-sit for the couple.

"Chris, you have no idea what a lifesaver you are," Cindy exclaimed as she put on her coat.

Chris, with his characteristic smile, replied, "Don't worry about it. It's been ages since I've seen the little guy. Oh, I hope I didn't offend him." He nervously covered his mouth, concerned about his nephew's feelings.

Mark chuckled and reassured him, "No, he's perfectly fine. This is what he wanted. He shouldn't be too much trouble; he's quite independent. We've stocked him up with plenty of food and drink, and he has his entertainment. You won't even notice he's here."

"Fair enough," Chris said. "Just let him do his thing?"

"Exactly," Cindy responded, oblivious to the unique situation her son found himself in. "We just want you to keep an eye on the house, less so on Cole. It just gives us peace of mind knowing there's someone here to ensure his safety."

With those parting words, Mark and Cindy bid farewell to Chris and headed for the airport.

Chris entered the house and proceeded upstairs to check on Cole. Upon entering his "room," he approached the dollhouse and peered inside. Somewhat disappointed, he observed what appeared to be a small lump in the upstairs bed, assuming that Cole was taking a nap. Leaving a note for his nephew, Chris quietly exited the house, leaving Cole to rest.

Unbeknownst to Chris, Cole was not napping but instead exploring Chris's sandals, just as he had done with his father's before. Since he rarely saw Uncle Chris, this was the perfect opportunity for him to satisfy his curiosity. Cole had been present the entire time his parents and Chris had discussed his situation as they left the house, watching in fascination as these giants conversed above him, their booming footsteps reverberating through the ground.

Cole left a pile of blankets in his bed to make it seem as though he was asleep. He continued to observe as his uncle re-entered the house and headed upstairs, presumably to check on him.

As Cole ventured deeper into his exploration, Chris returned in a hurry, slipping on his sandals without a second thought, never once considering the possibility of a tiny man beneath him. The calloused soles of Chris's feet prevented him from feeling the slight lump beneath the ball of his foot as he exited the house to meet with friends for a few drinks. Cole remained pinned beneath his uncle's foot for the better part of the day, with only brief reprieves when Chris slipped his feet out and crossed his legs during his social outing.
