I can't get myself to call him Angel Dust anymore. I feel so bad for Anthony.

I'm super late to the party and a lot of people have already talked about various things, but I wanted to point out one other detail. You tend to see Valentino smoking that red smoke as well sometimes drooling red spit. Well, it's got an aphrodisiac effect that he uses to help control people. You can see it when he blows it directly into Angel Dust's face before he's blindfolded: his eyes go droopy and the camera goes blurry for just a second before the blindfold is put into place. So Valentino is both figuratively AND literally a drug/poison Angel Dust keeps coming back to. (Also, the stuff put into his drink is a "love drug" that the Vees made from Valentino's spit/venom.)

the stoping to give the song its just dues and moment of silence is so relatable <3 this was a hard episode for me too when i first watched it thankyou casper i know you did this reaction over a year ago but glad i chose to watch it here in full glory and not youtube.

Leilani Tuala

(year late to this reaction series)~ that was my reaction to it the first time too man :( Jeg håber du er ok ❤️I also sat in silence then went back and rewatched Poison

Ekville

One guides, the other drags...

Phoenix Mackenzie

I haven't seen anyone mention it here, but Husk holds out his hand for Angel to take instead of grabbing him, and then later on Angel trusts Husk enough to be the one to hold his hand out for Husk to take 🥹

Ainsleigh McCue

Yeah, I can't use his old name until/if he chooses to take it for himself

Phoenix Mackenzie

loved the reaction! episode 4 was my fav episode and poison was my fav song in the series.

MrGrimReaper

I was a victim of abuse. Episode 4 wrecked me mostly because i felt so seen it made me vunerable, but somehow beeing seen was also healing in many ways. I still cry everytime i see the visual along with the song but its such a boa i cant help listening it by itself. Loser baby feels like such a warm hug after it all. And thank you for being vulnerable and allowing yourself to resonate with those themes, that and epic made me want to support you on patreon.

Mariana Tayt-Sohn

poison and loser baby are my definite favourite hazbin songs, but i always have to listen to them back to back or it's too tragic 😭

casperclysm

I've heard a lot of thoughts on the name thing regarding angel and what resonates with me personally as someone who has changed their name is that the most respectful thing to do is to use the name a person actively goes by, so personally to me calling him anthony has the same feeling as deadnaming someone if that makes sense! I'm sure someone has already expressed this idea on youtube or even here and i missed it but just felt like sharing that again (loving the video though)

casperclysm

That is my favorite song too. It's powerful, it's messy, it's complex but it's beautiful too. Husk's song right after made it so much fun after that dark note & I'm glad it was Keith David Lil tidbit of irony too since Husk said he used to be an Overlord too, Keith David voices a character called Chaos in Final Fantasy Dissidia who was basically Satan/Devil who controlled the underworld too so it's cool to see him back playing a char who has the same type of background who also lost his position as Overlord due to another person--kinda like in the game too--plus who could deny Keith David singing? Amazing episode And I felt exactly how you felt when I first watched this. I think it doesn't matter what medium a movie or show or game is using so long as the music or char or story touches you then their message was conveyed properly and I think that's a wonderful thing Just like you feel for Anthony, I'm glad his story touched you & his music & message reached you that's the beautiful point of this episode ❤️

As the princess of hell Charlie is the third strongest person in all of hell just under Lilith and Lucifer. By comparison overlords like Alastor are ranked 6th. Just above regular sinners and non-royal hellborn like imps and hellhounds.

ShadowFox1412

This episode's always a hard watch. What struck me this time is how talented Angel/Anthony really is as an performer. Not only has he been keeping up this persona 24/7, method acting as survival strategy, but during "Poison" we see him switch in and out of it repeatedly and handle just about anything. The clip of him being chained and dragged by Valentino and somehow managing to turn that into a flirtatious dance? Fred Astaire could never. (And then it parallels beautifully with the much more equal, respectful dance in "Loser Baby". )

Seconding the rec, "Addict" was a fan song made after the pilot came out that the team loved so much they turned it into an official full-length music video. It'd make a good reaction (don't miss the last verse after the credits) along with some of the other phenomenal fan music the pilot inspired. People may have already pointed you towards the songs by PARANOIDDJ, but if not I think you'd really appreciate them. My favorites are "Use Me Up" (Angel), "Eyes on Me" (Vox), "We're Sure to Drown" (Husk/Charlie duet), "Smile Like You Mean It" (Alastor), and "Pop" (Cherri). They no longer quite match canon but they're SO good musically.

Casper: reminds me of old school Olly Murs Me: *shocked pikachu face* I came across Olly Murs by accident years ago and I enjoy his music, but I’ve literally never heard anyone else talk about him before or since. A nice surprise! ‘Poison’ and ‘Loser, Baby’ are pretty much considered the best songs from this show full stop, and a big part of that is the emotional impact. I love both songs. While I can’t personally relate to ‘Poison’, it hits HARD. That being said, ‘Loser, Baby’ is my favorite- it hit a little closer to home for me and I listened to that song on repeat for like three days straight at least after watching this episode. 🙃

TheBookWyrm

OH also re cover - so I love to sing and I started learning this song the moment I heard it and a cool thing I noticed. So you know how songs are written with consideration given to when and how you're meant to breathe while performing it? The breath points for Poison are few and far between, with them getting fewer as the song goes on until you can barely breathe at the end. Performing this song (which is some fourth wall breaking metaphor for masking) hurts you and leaves you gasping. Pretty cool huh?

So I'm just watching HH myself and I skipped your other reacts to come watch this one because... yeah. My story is slightly different but my reaction to my own sexual abuse and exploitation was exactly the same as Anthony's, to the point that even now 20 years after it's finished I'm still hypersexual in my behaviour (in spite of being asexual by nature) and actively working on fucking myself up so no one wants me. I'm in a better place about it I'm not hurting myself or still being exploited or anything but... yeah. Poison was created by someone who's been there, that was someone's therapy. Also thanks for giving a shit, I know it's a low bar but it helps more than you might realize.

anni davison

My heart bled for you when I realized you weren't pausing during Poison. That song fucks us all up. I cry every time.

Imara121

Looking back at the “dance break” during Poison, the TVs behind Anthony flash with different scenes of what he is actually going through in the moment. Anthony feeling free and dancing is how he is dissociated in the moment until Val steps in, forcing him back into reality. It’s so heartbreaking and this episode makes me cry every time without fail. His situation hits really close to home personally so I can’t help but feel such a strong connection with Anthony.

Toga_UwU

anyone else notice Caspers look of PURE Murder during Posion

Saren Dracul

It also looks to me like Angel's ropes are similar to a scene in Poison when he was tied up the ropes were all wrapped around his chest in a design like that. like you might see in bondage or something maybe

geekygiraffe

I love when you laugh at really stupid jokes.

Alcaria Bordelon

Just to say your so strong as a fellow mentally abused victim

Liz Lilliman

‘Loser, Baby’ gives me so so much hope. Every time i feel kinda shitty about everything it just helps to kinda realise that, yes everything is shit right now, but that’s okay. There are people that are in this with me together and it’s gonna be fine at some point.

Anjo .

Another really interesting interpretation I've seen of the ropes is that they're indicative of their respective masters! Angel's ropes are sloppy and haphazard, chaotic, much like how Valentino is unpredictable and prone to fits of passion. Husk's ropes, however, are tight and neat and organized, much like how Alastor is always meticulous and proper.

Kitty

A beautiful episode. So much highs and lows

Ryan Ratchford

Poison is such a masterpiece of a song, and the scene describes what abuse of any sort (I can assume) feels like perfectly. I’ve never gone through anything physical, but I was torn to shreds mentally by my ex, who is no longer in my life, and the lines “Any way you want me baby that’s the way you got me” and “I got so good at telling you what you wanna hear” perfectly sum up putting up a mask, whether it be out of fear of being yelled at or guilt tripped or anything else. Then Loser, Baby coming in and being like “yeah this all sucks ass, but at least we are together” is so comforting. 10/10 episode and reaction <3

DragonTamer200

Glad to see you understand Anthony alot better. :3 There is another music video focused on Anthony on Vivzie's channel called "Addict". Which is amazing as well. But I believe it's a cover sung by Anthony's original VA? As well as Cherri's original VA.

Kayleigh McRae

I can’t find the words to describe this episode or reaction so instead i am sending everyone virtual hugs

Ren (Cora Z)

Yeah, a reactor I know showed her mother the show and in a previous episode she was joking and stuff about Val before she knew

Phoenix Mackenzie

Yeah, poison hits hard, the disassociation line/part especially as a system

Phoenix Mackenzie

It is a hard watch. I'm a survivor of a mentally abusive relationship, one thing I do like about this episode and past with how Valentino treats angel is that it shows that abuse isn't always physical. The line I disassociate and disappear rings true. From the outside as well no one knew what was going on in the relationship. I ended up trying to end my life twice because of it, once towards the end the end after the relationship ended as I had been led to believe that I would never have another relationship after his because of how I looked. I can now say 25yrs later that I have been happily married to a wonderful man for 22 years. I never saw the abuse until the relationship was over. I didn't even know it was over as I was left stranded with a weekend bag and over 300 miles from where we lived, he left me at my mum's and went back with my car.

Liz Lilliman

Haven't even finished all the way yet, but yeah, Poison is amazing. This whole episode always makes me recall that one quote; "Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable" I feel like it really fits here, really powerful stuff.

Ren

Just realized that for the people new to this fandom with no idea the history/dynamic of Val and Angel, this episode is a canon event (Spider-verse reference)
