2024-07-19 20:22:32 +0000 UTCPsych major here. Burnie was curious as to why people pretend not to be sick from a psychology perspective. There isn’t really a singular explanation for this, as it isn’t really a disorder of any kind, and every other explanation is subjective. The best answer I can give you is this: people pretend to not be, or discount their symptoms in either denial, or more likely the fear of perceived weakness (particularly in men, though I can’t really provide you with a peer reviewed study at the moment that proves this). Personally though, I know I’ve pretended not to be sick or just sort of “toughed it out” because I didn’t want to have to call out of work. Hopefully that helps lol.

2024-07-19 15:57:34 +0000 UTCI had my tonsils out for the first time in 1970 when i was four (they do grow back). It was in the hospital and they used ether. I woke up during the surgery and i remember them putting the strainer over my mouth and putting me back out
