I work in production for my Church and that includes uploading our weekly church services to YouTube and I have to select “not made for kids” when uploading, even though it is family friendly.

2024-05-08 15:58:24 +0000 UTCSo I work in YouTube/online content, the “is this content made for kids” checkmark is actually not a content restriction thing in the way that you would think. Ever since the fallout from the trouble YouTube got in with unrestricted/ unmonitored kid’s content, content made specifically for kids is actually MORE restricted than content that isn’t. You’re not really “age-gating” yourself in the way you would think by unchecking that box, if you *do* check that box you’re less monetized, comments are turned off, and your video is generally more monitored and restricted. That being said, you’re not supposed to check that box unless you’re *SPECIFICALLY* making content with the target audience being children, so most of YouTube isn’t affected by that.

They know a lot of unbiased, unfiltered news and footage comes from there and usually very early during major events and they can't control it. The government loooooves Meta though lol
