Episode 624: The Metal Gear Storyline, Pt. I

Jeremy: I have a feeling that this will turn out to be one of those episodes that a lot of people really enjoy but a handful of super-fans will find deeply annoying. Metal Gear demi-super-fans Shane Bettenhausen and Tomm Hulett and I have all spent a lot of time playing and thinking about Metal Gear games, but this is the kind of conversation that tends to be a little livelier if the participants don't memorize every detail in advance in order to spark a little extra conversation and keep things loose and just a little bit messy. I mean, heck, that was Hideo Kojima's entire approach to plotting the Metal Gear saga. We're just keeping things authentic.

The second part of this will arrive next month. And not to spoil anything, but the back half of the Metal Gear storyline is so chaotic that we're going to have to do a little more prep work just to keep things from flying off the rails.

Is death stranding not episode 8 enough?

Nice post-credits sting! Also, the comment about the memorable script was spot-on: to this day, upon hearing about some wrongdoing by the American establishment, I can't help but exclaim "...YOU PENTAGON BASTARDS" in the style of an elderly arms dealer succumbing to FOXDIE.

I have it on good authority that part 2 will arrive relatively soon.

Please don’t make us wait long for the second part, can’t wait to hear you folks dig into the highs and lows of the second half of the series.

Cant wait for part 2 and for yall to discuss MGS4. The game is so incredibly dense with plot and lore it is genuinely difficult to even talk about hah. MGS4 represents the finality of adolescence to me. I beat it one summer morning during that transition from high school to "adulthood" we all go through. It was pretty emotional for me even at the end, not so much because the plot itself, but because I felt like I was literally closing the book on my adolescence. I think it also perfectly captured my feelings of, trying to make sense or reflect on all the craziness that was childhood up to that point.
