A problem on the last chapter

There were a few choices you could make in the vn that would determine the ending of the story...but I messed up.

Flags are set in the save files so the correct path would be picked. But since the save files aren't usable in the updates that means these none of choices weren't saved.

There is a special flags that change the start screen, which are always saved. I should've set the the choices on those flags but I didn't. I can change that later, but for now. What can I do for you guys?

I figure for the 1.0 release I will fix the flag issue, the game will have a default path if you didn't land on the otter. You will have to play the chapters with these choices again to set them, I can't do anything about that.

I could do something messy and just ask you what route you want for the last chapter. This would be removed for the public release.

Or just fix the flag issue and have everyone play through ottertale from the beginning again?

My new otter engine would be able to use old save files, but it would be still unstable to use. If I change a lot of lines in the vn, that will change the spot where you saved the game and probably mess with other event flags.

In proper gamedev, that's not acceptable to have saves messed up. so it's better to just not allow using old save files.

What kind of hint would you want me to add to the oysters?

Star Dragon

*spoilers*--dont read .i didnt know there was an intended route. the top/bottom at end of 7 seemed random because there is not hint as to which is what, the position of an oyster? marlo did some bottom, but is that his canon position to relate to that choice? is the other ending that nothing happens, or is it ollie related, that didn't match top/bottom choice either. i do like both of the otters. i was very disappointed in andrew at the end.

It's not that uncommon to have saves that get messed up in the VN serial update world. I wouldn't call it a deal breaker. One thing I've seen is for chapter skip menus to just outright ask what choices you made in previous chapters. Others asked you to actually play through again. I don't think it's bad to ask the questions if you're using chapter skip.
