Im hispanic and call my dad "Papi" from time to time cuz I love him and have been doing so for all my life. Recently another hispanic friend of mine told me he found it weird and he could never, but his dad has had a spotty presence in his life. That definitely has something to do with being able to separate the kinky use of it and the regular one.

Like, it's not something you ever hear if you're not a parent so it exclusively being used in ironic/fake sexual contexts can just ingrain it in your brain that way and it's hard to uncouple. I hear MBT talk about gooning enough that I don't think I can hear the word elsewhere without relating it.
