Department Store Confidential ep.2

Comments

I love this show and just started it today! Awesome asf

Kenny Lovejoy

This show is gold, please do another ppp

Sam gist

Been listening to you guys since you first cameoed on Smodcast before TESD and finally joined Patreon...love all the shows on here! and wish this show had more episodes.

Matt Mills

Bring this back

Broonly1

Loved this

Genfuyung

The Lizard Lick of their Tow Shows until they find their IJ. Hope to see a few more, Jimmy's banter fits in with the crew.

Lowiji

I belly laughed through this entire episode. Great job guys!

Amanda

More of this. I'm jonesing for a new episode. Maybe a Thanksgiving & Christmas episode? -- I'm surprised no one mentioned the video game crash of 1983 in this episode.

Lenin Pena

Was no one going to bring up how it looks like Garfield's holding his cock out for you to ride on the Garfield scooter during 55:14?

Daniel Colaianni

Why is there no show with Jimmy on it using his crazy rain man knowledge of movies/tv? You could literally dress him up as rain man and do a game show.

Daniel Colaianni

Least favourite of the magazine shows, doesn't mean I dont like it but if it's taking up a slot of patreon for anything involving Frank 5 I would be disappointed.

Isaac

Thank you so much for using YOUTUBE instead of vimeo now, it's been an absolute game changer and now patreon is available to me every time, I can now stay subscribed.

Isaac

i poop on your comments 💩⬇️

Joe Michael

Jeff is on fire here 🤣.... and I love watching Jimmy laugh! Great ep.

William Travers

I think Sunday Jeff misses more than he hits recently

Jarrew

Love this show 🤗🤗

Nicole Foraker

Love this show - comedy gold guys!

TDrizzle

Wow. Huddles. I recall them, but didn’t know they were called Huddles. My cousin, who was from NY, had a Redskins Huddles shirt

Nick Adrian

Please don't ever stop the catalogue shows! these (and sunday drive) are my absolute faves! As a UK 13% born in the 90s it's fascinating to see the similarities and differences in our memories of catalogues and toys! Jimmy is pure joy and his laugh is infectious... More of these please!!!

Aimée

Peyo got credit because he created the Smurfs in Belgium and it was big in Europe in comics and merch before the cartoon. The Flintstones creators got credit, because it was created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. You didn’t see their names all over Tom and Jerry, although they created it, because MGM owned it and it played in theaters. They made sure to get their names out when they made their own shows for TV though.

Nick Adrian

You guys are on fire this with jokes. I loved Sunday’s Dukes of HAzzard alarm and saying “I need the bathroom key” as Git Em spotted the coed in socks. Overall this is a big improvement from the previous episode. I think you forgot Garfield cartoon specials. the first one premiered on CBS in October 1982, and that is probably what got the kids buying Garfield

Nick Adrian

You know, Sears shutting down the catalog department in 1993 was a huge mistake in retrospect. At the time, Wal-Mart was crushing them. However, a couple of years later, home computers and internet exploded. Sears could’ve been Amazon which started the following year. If they digitized and went online selling their old wares and books/music, they would rule the world.

Nick Adrian

This is a great idea. I think TV guys needs to have more images to cit to in the edit, and I like the catalogs but after JCPenney and Sears, the 2 hig boys, I worry there aren’t enough legs for catalogs as a stand alone.

Nick Adrian

My sister had a little E.T. PVC figure and Sneakers. She was like 15 months old so they are in great shape to this day in my mom’s attic.

Nick Adrian

I think the problem with MASH is that they used the depressing song from the MASH film, “Suicide is Painless” for the opening theme of a sitcom. Back when it was on, people only had like 4 options of what to watch. It would’ve tanked if it premiered a few years later. I think men who saw the film were hoping for the Porky’s-esque knock down the womens’ shower wall nudity that was in the film too.

Nick Adrian

I love this show!

Kristen M

As always, another brilliant outing. Jimmy is fucking great! He brings a level of authenticity when he talks that I love to listen to.Just a bloke being himself. MORE JIMMY PLEASE! Just in case you aren’t aware, Evonne Goolagong is a massive icon here in Australia. Massive! Especially for those who were children of the 70’s and 80’s. She is beloved across the nation. And fuck I hope Gitem wins this trial 🤞🤞🤞

Emmett Sheahan

Keep this one going, certain pods cover certain subjects that may trigger memories/stories that you guys have not strip mined yet, so that’s new for the listeners

Jared Cronce

specifically coming here to show my love for this and tv guys after what walt said in the main show. i love looking at old print like this and you guys covering it is amazing. please keep em coming, the kiss pod too please!

Ocyrus Hightop

please keep....I only listed to the pod....I actually came to patreon just to voice this. maybe I should watch the vids too

Chris Hoffman

Love these shows!

Stacey Linnell

Please keep these!

Danny Bowers

I heard Walt mention the “catalog” shows may be going the way of the dodo. I assume he meant this one and TV guys. Have you thought about combining them instead of canceling? Use TV guys as the main show but have department catalogs from the same year..? Just a thought.

RaspaStillGrooves

I’m loving these. TV Guys too.

Bri-anonymous

Catalog shows are great. Its just reminiscing and talk amongst friends. Loving Walt's Lions sweatshirt. Lions Pride!!!

Tom McIntire

Loving these catalog episodes keep them coming very entertaining and interesting. Love that Jimmy got the item he was excited about in the end credits.👍🏼

Frank

Jimmy for president !

Dave

If you would squeeze the strawberry shortcake doll it would smell like strawberries. I had the collection as well as the care bears. I love this show...

Angie Diaz

I had that Smurfs PJs.... :0)

Angie Diaz

Keep doing these please , I love them! They’re so nostalgic.

Mar B

best show ever

Eric Bussell

I love this series. It puts me in a happy place. The crew for this show is perfect. Walt, please do not cancel this show!

Bill

Jimmy the Hair Guy is a great TESD Town addition. Really enjoy his attitude and sense of humor. He fits in well!

Brandon Amato

I really enjoy the show! Hope it continues! Every show I'm a bigger fan of Jimmy. He really seems to have a good soul. Thank you for the content!

Jordan S

I don’t comment often, but I had to for this one since it’s such a pivotal episode 😂😂 I LOVE this show, please keep them coming, very funny plus I enjoy looking at the old catalogs, I love seeing all the old merchandise and prices

Red

I love this show. I would still sub to Patreon even if it was solely catalog shows

Helen

Catalog shows are great and hilarious. Keep them going. Next should be "Playboys on Penthouse" 🤣

Squatch

It was the camaraderie between everyone that made me continue listening. The same with IJ, it's the camaraderie between everyone.

Tracey Baker

This is the show that made me love Jimmy! I couldn’t see it before. He just seems like a really great guy

Alistair Rayment

Good shit guys. Keep it up. Fucking Jimmy’s accent. Someone needs to create a Hair Guy’s Dictionary with all the Jimmyisms. “Smelly sigah”, “Lahl and Hotty”, etc. Sometimes I need an interpreter.

Uncle Bruno Diaz

i had that garfield trash can!

Keith Green

Good shit. It's mad all the better since I have this great feeling from all the fantastic, Git'em-less episodes of the podcast. He's great every now and then, like every other TESD Town resident, but he should nor be the 4th member of TESD. I like him a lot in the background, producer role on the main show. He's good to have on mic, in Patreon shows though.

VonDiesel 3000

Please continue this series. Both episodes have been great.

hesbackinpogform

I couldn’t help but read this in Jimmy the Hair Guy voice. You’re awesome man!

Nick Lavigne

This show is hilarious! Keep it going!

Jerry Driscoll

I love this format - its about the people riffing off each other about anything!

Lee Wood

I mean, if you keep doing the kiss podcast, don't act like this is any worse. All this from a life long ant.

Mark Maldonado

Love this show! Please keep it going! I reminisced along with you!

Melissa

Jimmy bombs while Sunday saves the show with his C-3PO bag knowledge. Peas and fruit!

Bokes

My 2nd favorite of your Patreon shows (Tales from Behind the Counter is #1). I love the stories, the pictures, the random things that pop up (think velour short-shorts). Please keep the catalog shows coming!!!

Michelle Albertson

I’m 53 and every one of those catalogs brings back so many memories!

Darren Webb

Nothing but love for whatever you guys do! From the beginning, this is just so exciting

Darren Webb

Another banger!!!!!

Matthew Musclecock

I'd just like to say that I'm a Jimmy The Hair Guy guy.

Wes Hales

Please keep this one going!

Wes Hales

Always a fan!! Maybe have Ming but take his cell phone away or Q on if he is available while covering the 80's catalogues. Really good show but when you get into the toys Bry, Walt, & Sunday are too old and Jimmy is too young for some of it. Would love to hear Ming talk about Joes while you guys rip into him.

Alex King

Smurfs was a French comic strip/book series before it was a Hanna Barbara cartoon. Gargamel originally created Smurfette to infiltrate the Smurfs villiage, Poppa Smurf deprogramed her and made her a good Smurf.

Brandon Emerich(Brandroid)

I was all about the Garfield. My room was all decked out with this stuff.

Michael Smith

Love the show Jimmy is a great enthusiastic addition Loooove the length and re watchability

Zach chilton

Another piece of quality TESD entertainment. Keep this one going! Also gotta know Jimmy does that cigar still smell????

Deana Novak

Love these episodes. Had a Sears at the mall down the street up until a year or two ago. Didn't know there were only 10 left.

David Gregory

Gotta be honest, I never thought this or any show with you guys ready a catalog or TV Guide would work of interest me at all. But shit, I’m sold and for some reason this stuff works. Thanks for the laugh boys.

Mat Kondreck

Peas and fruit, holy crap man that was amazing

Luis Castro Jr Jr

Awesome show Walt, keep em coming. Jimmy is fantastic and works great with the guys.

Troy Andrews

A little useless BETA facts... TV stations still primarily used BETA tapes for storing commercials until things switched over to digital files just in the past 10 years. I will still hand delivering commercials to local tv stations just 10 years ago on BETA tapes to run.

Sean Allen

Whattttt??? This is incredible! Thank you!

Kathryn Menecola

Kathryn, you should check out this site with all the catalogs christmas.musetechnical.com/

Joe Garruba

Thank you sir!!!!! Happy to have you in the anthill!!!!

Jimmy Alicata

Don’t ever stop this show! Please! Sears Wish Book was the shit and a huge part of my childhood in the 90s. I love these shows and the nostalgia and comfort they bring

Kathryn Menecola

Goddamnit you are such a sweetheart. It’s impossible not to like you Jimmy I have to admit. I’m having the same awakening as Q here. Can’t wait to see what’s next and I hope they keep you around. I’ve seen and heard everything since episode one of TESD

Joe Garruba

Nahman I totally get it! And I dont blame you for having that reaction! If I came off bragging that was a mistake on my part. I’m actually truly ashamed. I tend to laugh when I’m nervous or uncomfortable and my guess is thats probably what was happening with me here. I never for a second take for granted what a fuckin lucky break I’ve caught in most aspects of my life. My addictive personality has definitely gotten me into some trouble though. Just please dont jump off Patreon because of me! Thats all I ask! Haha much love man!

Jimmy Alicata

Oh no Jimmy you replied and now you’re a real person to me! Perhaps I was a little harsh and quick to judge. It just seemed a little shitty the way you were almost bragging about it or laughing about it. But I do understand that it’s something that you struggle with and it’s not to say that I don’t like you, because I definitely enjoyed you throughout the entire show right up until that moment and I will keep listening andkeeping my mind open. Nothing but love Jimmy, nothing but love

Joe Garruba

Youre not wrong man. Its a serious issue that I’ve been working on. It wasnt an easy thing for me to come clean about but now that its out there, I dont expect anyone to have any sympathy or admiration for me. I’m sorry I rubbed you the wrong way but hopefully I can win you over in the future. Thanks for tuning in!

Jimmy Alicata

325 Christmas catalogs from the 30s to today

Joe Garruba

325 Christmas catalogs from Sears and JCPenney over 60 years

Joe Garruba

OK, this may not be a popular opinion, but up until today I literally had zero opinion of Jimmy the hair guy even though Walt seems to love him and then Q claims to have come around and fallen in love with him… Listening to him speak about his real life and his real relationship at the end of this episode was a major turn off for me. Jimmy basically Openly admits that he’s a degenerate who mooches on his girlfriend and not even for good reasons I mean who the hell needs the Blu-ray of anything in this day and age? And then he’s going into hock for tattoos of celebrity faces!? You seem like a really nice guy Jimmy and I certainly don’t fault you for being who you are, but come on man get it together, don’t go borrowing money to buy something so stupid as an obsolete Blu-ray of a not so good movie. But I did appreciate your enthusiasm while going through the catalog. I do feel like having someone a little younger than the other guys lens a much needed perspective to the discussion

Joe Garruba

Bravo! I remember school starting and you'd think the friction would have started thigh fires by the sound in the hall of new pants rubbing! We need a montage of Jimmy and Got 'em in these clothes.

Michael J Curtis

Great episode. I now know my parents had a Sears credit card in 83, because I got so many things shown for Christmas that year. Fun trip down memory lane!

William shew

There better be a third episode of this. More Jimmy the hair guy please🙏🏽❤️

Hass

I was just hoping to find something to cheer me up this morning and I was thrilled to see a new episode had dropped! Had to stop and comment at Walt’s request - I really enjoy this show! It makes me want to sit around and watch old toy commercials for stuff my parents never bought me 😂 Honestly though, any content from you guys is great. I’m just happy to see new stuff drop, and I like the nostalgia pods!! You shit gold Walt! Don’t listen to the haters! If you need the rest of us to start up-ing our subscriptions to make up for the stragglers, just say the word!

Rina Jaffe

I'm lovin it guys

Raymond Tomaino

Keep this format going! Don’t stop!

Kyle H

Just watched this episode for the 3rd time. I like it. Keep it going.

Michael Minto

Where are the TESD sleeping bags? Cause I would buy one

Michael Mcrey

I love this show!! You gotta keep it.

Tonya D McCoskey

Awesome episode! I’ve already watched it twice. I loved the Sears Wishbook. In Canada, 2016 was the its last year.

Vincent Ivey

Love the show.

Jennifer

I’m the same age as Bry and Walt and I really love this show. I recognized the catalog in the first episode and had a blast seeing all the old stuff and seeing stuff that I actually had. I love TV Guys, too, and I really like I Sold Comics. Keep ‘em coming.

Rob

Screw the haters! This is a great show that I enjoy watching. Keep em coming! I would love to see catalogues from the 90s as well!

Joe Sander

Jim Davis is worth over 800 million

Peter Cammarata

Love this! Of course the content will play to your strengths (your youth), it's what is the whole TESD foundation. But I'm 53 and into comics, toys and music so it's almost like I'm listening to a replay of my childhood. I listen all day while driving around at work and often find myself commenting like I'm in the room.

Donald Lamoureux

Davis must have learned from Gene Simmons, brand everything and you can never have to much merch out there.

John MacDonald

I like all the shows; doesn’t matter what you guys are up to, I’ll still be listening/watching.

Matt Schroeder

This is a really great show. I am in the same age range as Walt and Bry so I remember the sheer joy of going through the catalogs. Even more then the subject matter I enjoy the interplay of you all. That's why you can talk about anything and anything. It's the group dynamic that's special

Stu Greenberg

I HAD THAT SMURF BIKE ! 😂 I do dog this show BUT we need more Frank 5 Rewinds ! Lol

Wendell Wested

More episodes please!

Rick Moen

Had the same thought. I would say yes. I had a shell suit in the late eighties/early nineties. They were awful!

Peter Reilly

I googled while I watched. Jim Davis is worth 800 MILLION! I'd say Garfield was popular

Matt C

F@#$ anyone who doesn't enjoy this. Keep goin' boys!!!!

Matt Powers

Worth it just for Jimmy’s ridiculously giddy reactions to things (and his pronunciations). Keep it going!!

J.

I hope you continue. It's hard to say why but I enjoy this alot. I was born in 91 and it's interesting to see what things were popular and things I've never saw. Also I jump up a tier to watch.

Matt C

Loving this show! This episode was better than the first. I was an 80s kid so this brings back memories. Also I Googled Cathy because this episode made me curious and this is what I found: "On October 3, 2010, the final strip ran with the revelation that Cathy is pregnant with a girl."

Jorge Salinas Jr.

Walt is way off. 100% they’ll know Mario over any other character. Relevant since the early 80s.

Tim Renfro

Love it, keep this and the other nostalgia shows going!

Sean Starke

Please keep this show. It’s my favorite of the catalogue shows.

PatreANT

I love this show. Keep it!

Peter Cammarata

Continue continue continue!

Amber

Love this show!!

Joan

Anything from TESD is awesome!!!!!

Pedro Quinones

Love this. Second only to TV Guide guys👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Vincent

May be a bit "scraping the bottom of the barrell" to some which I can understand but I still find it enjoyable and any show without Gitem is a good show

Hank

really like the show! Sundays toy expertise and Jimmys knowledge of most things pop culture is great to watch. we need more Department Store Confidential!

Derek N

Cords! Hell yeah! At work I set up a corduroy Tuesday and got a lot of buy in. Unfortunately we had bad weather in Houston turned band and most people worked from home. I WILL BRING BACK CORDUROY!!!!!

Andrew Lazas

Love the catalog shows. Hope they stay a part of the rotation!

Johnny C

I don’t know why people didn’t like episode 1, I think this is a fun show! Please don’t cancel

Frank Fontaino

I love this show. TV guys and I sold comics are also grest but there is place for then all in TESD town. Who wants to live a life of "or's" when we can have it all and embrace the "ands".

Astoria Foam Cutters Local 403

You guys need to look at this stuff from a young girl's perspective. I had that Strawberry Shortcake alarm clock, those Garfield slippers, still have that Odie stuffed animal. Garfield also had his strips out in book form. I collected them. I had the Garfield board game and even a sleeping bag. I'm having a total girl boner with all this Garfield merch!!! I would have killed for those roller skates! Ok, you just got to The Smurfs. I'm dying over here. I had the lunch box, board game, sleeping bag, so much Smurf stuff! Now I can't decide between the Garfield and the Smurfs roller skates. Liked the Shirt Tales. Care Bears!!! Ok, this was amazing. Thank you, boys.

kitgrrrl

This was even better than the first ep!

Chris Catterall

H&R sir

Ryan Berney

I had to stop the show immediately and comment when he said to please let you know if we like the show. I love this show!! I was even able to find a website that has all of these catalog digitized from the 30s till now, JCPenney, Sears, and Montgomery Ward and I’m gonna have fun nights at my house with friends projecting this onto the television and breaking down the catalog just like you and your buds

Joe Garruba

You can do no wrong

Scott Malthouse

I love Jimmy’s contribution to the patreon. This is such a fun idea, especially for those of us older enough to remember these things vividly from our childhood. Keep making more!!!

Lindsay

Were those activewears based on the Liverpool shellsuits in the uk?

Tracey Baker

I dig the catalog shows, especially the Christmas/Wish Book shows. My friends and I will some times go down similar rabbit holes posting and discussing old pages from the 70s and 80s Christmas catalogs.

Brian E Lassiter

Had a feeling he was worth a fortune. Dilbert guy had insane money.

Ryan Berney

Baron Munchausen by Proxy

Ryan Berney

More 2 hour episodes. More TESD the better

Marc Littlefield

Born in 92. Love seeing these types of shows and hearing about stuff before my time. Also usually hate when new people are added to a established group that I like but Jimmy is a great addition to the shows he's been on.

Taylor Martin

All the catalogue shows have been from before I was born and I've loved them all! Really interesting and they're all funny.

Chris Catterall

Another great episode!

M. Erlandsson

This was better than Dune part 2!

David Horgan

consistently Mario is #1 on top video game character lists & Pac-Man is #5. Pac-Man has been in 36 games Mario has been in over 200 games

james chow

love all things TESD

james chow

💯

Ryan

Apparently Smurfette was created by the bad guy to infiltrate and spy on the smurfs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smurfette

Dirk Gently

I love how long these are, too

Kris and Aubree

Great episode

marcus

Jimmy the Hair Guy is a god.

Stanknugget

Walt would be shocked to know that Jim Davis (creator of Garfield) is worth 800 million.

John MacDonald

i could listen to them read a phone book. the general conversation and targeting each other is mega lulz every time

Donnie Petko

Please keep making these types of shows, always entertaining!

Chris kochersperger

Keep the show going. #CatalogMeDawg

Ryan

I love these episodes because I’m a sucker for nostalgia. I also love Jimmy. You guys coulda expanded on jimmys sega genesis sears story! One of the best retro consoles ever! Also, bring back license to pod! Make a new show with Jimmy Rup and Tom and gitem

Ryan

This and tv guys is always a fun listen. It offers a ton of nostalgic stuff for you everyone to riff on.

John MacDonald

Good stuff, keep it up. Jimmy dropping Academy Award knowledge on the spot.

なんでやねん

I still don't get Jimmy

Doablewarrior

With all the pop culture that came from the 70s, 80s, and 90s I think this show has plenty of material to keep me coming back and really enjoying it. Same reason the TV guide one lands for me. Great episode, love the long content, all four of you bounce off each other so well for tons of laughs, trivia, and memories, keep em coming please!

Michael J Curtis

Enjoy this show but I was really hoping we were going to get a new ep of TESD & D sometime soon.

Tim Ryckman

I loved this episode and I hope the guys continue to do it!

Kris and Aubree

This show is a prime example of why I keep my membership and takes me back to the OG TESD episodes where everyone’s personalities shine and Walt berates them for it. Also, big Jimmy fan, met him on the IG cruise and such a down to earth great fucking guy 🤘

Charles M Massaro

AWESOME! can't wait to listen!

Erich!

Walt, your dedication and endless hard work do not go unnoticed. The Patreon content exceeds all expectations. Solid work. And Jimmy is just the icing on the fucking cake we didn’t know we needed.

Amy Hill

As long as you guys don't perform the way Ming did when he didn't know you were recording a 2nd episode of I SOLD comics.. I'm always entertained. Even then, you guys made it entertaining.

Tonya Shaffer

I love these shows. Hearing y'all talk about the items brings back such fond memories of childhood. I hope you continue doing these episodes. I still have the little red "Going to Grandma's" Suitcase that was on the slipper page of the book.

Joy Tincher

Love this show. There should be more catalogue shows not less. Also more jimmy cuz he is awesome.

MutantFishHands

Jimmy came thru, better again, but needs to realize when Walt asks for research, to read his mind and to go deep.

Tom Rader

LOVE Department store confidential! Please keep producing it.

mikeydajune

Today's going to be a good day. Waking up to a new department store confidential feels wonderful. 😊

John Stoneham

Yes continue these types of shows.

Robert Gensinger

Hi I recently signed up for Patreon and so far I love it! So far I’m loving this segment!! Keep up the great work!!

Jenny Roberts

Love the magazine shows they are trips down memory lane

Elijah Elliott

Screw the haters! TESD is the Metal Disney! The Disney that killed the moms of fuzzy woodland creatures on the regular!
