Harp Musings

I imagine music is used non-diegetically in most campaigns. That is: when the GM plays a track, the characters aren't LITERALLY hearing that music in-game. Of course, if you're playing a Michaël Ghelfi ambience, that might not be the case (i.e. the characters are actually hearing the sounds of a bustling city or drippy cave or whatever), but most of my music is like a cinematic underscore: just something to establish mood, tension, and environmental flavor.

HOWEVER , there are exceptions. I occasionally make music that is supposed to sound specifically as though it's being performed in a tavern, or war drums that an invading army might actually be playing. This week is also a form of potentially diegetic music: solo harp! This rendition of "Fenshade Crossing" is the type of music your players would actually hear as they enter a religious sanctuary, a royal keep, or an aristocratic soirée. It's quiet, meandering, and comes across as potentially improvised. When the king pays to have a harpist perform in his chambers, this is what that performer might actually play.

As always, looping versions of the original and the solo harp version are provided below. Thanks so much!
