Synthetic Tension
Added 2021-03-15 23:34:20 +0000 UTCIn general, I try to avoid using too many synthesizers in my RPG music. I use sooo many synths in my video game work, and since the majority of you are playing in fantasy settings, I find the sounds of lutes and strings and war drums and whatnot are usually more appropriate.
THAT SAID, I think if you want to build true cinematic edgy tension, you gotta whip out those crunchy, distorted synth sounds. This variant of "Not Easily Forgotten" does exactly that. Of course, this will feel right at home in your sci-fi campaigns, but I think you'll get some use out of this in steampunk settings, the bleaker planes of existence, or for particularly dark and ambient locales. Creepy sewers, irradiated wastelands, and burned down warehouses all exude a sort of disturbing sadness that this track will highlight perfectly.
As always, looping versions of both this and the original are provided below.
