On the left is the final panel for page 25. On the right is the same panel before I fixed it a few minutes ago.
Clearly, something ain't right...on the right. The fox's head is tucked into his chest, and it's like they're barely touching lips.
In the pursuit of adding detail and wanting to make the drawing look good, I insisted on the viewer being able to see the cat's full snout and nose. This was not something I actively decided; more a subconscious thing... But in doing so, I had to move the fox's head down, which ruined the lip contact and shortened his neck considerably. Again, this happened entirely outside of any active decision making, but was a mistake that cascaded into other mistakes, and then more... once the head was tucked, the weird angle the head now forced me to add the fur tufts on the side of his head (his right side), even though they didn't belong there either ...
Only once I had stepped away to finish the rest of the page did I get far enough from my mess that I could see what I had done. There's a lesson in there somewhere... draw the forest, not the trees perhaps?
