Contest entry from long ago...

This sketch is a drawing contest entry from way back in 2015... I don't remember the details of the contest, but I do remember that the organizer ended it before the deadline, so this was never completed and never saw the light of day... until now.

You'll note it isn't actually digital, but a scan of a hand-drawn sketch. Back in those days, my penmanship wasn't nearly as good on tablet as on paper; especially since I was using a Wacom Bamboo tablet without a display. There's something about the tactile feedback you get from drawing on paper that's very hard to replicate on a digital tablet, and it takes a lot of practice to get used to the different feel a tablet affords.

At the same time, digital has an undo button, layers, and makes crisp vibrant lineart and colors way more convenient. A lot of advantages... so to get the best of both worlds, I would complete my initial sketch on paper, then scan it into my computer and do the lineart on top. It added an extra step, but it was worth it at the time.

If you've checked out my old comic ATR, almost the entire thing was made this way... the first 26 pages were even inked on paper. I'll make a post about that production soon ^^
