Greetings adventurers!

Getting around in the icy north is always a troubling prospect. I’m not one for sure-footedness on the best of days, but add some ice and snow to the equation and you can forget it. I’m much more likely to end up on my rear end than where I intended to go. That’s when it hit me, why should I fight against the ice when there is the option to embrace it. A few of the right enchantments later and now I can get around as I need regardless of the temperature outside. Maybe I should look into something similar to cool the interior environments of homes in the summer… No, that would be silly.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:

I always think about mobility in TTRPGs as an offensive and defensive measure of their own right. One that is often overlooked mind you, but an important one nonetheless. We recently had our first bout of snow and ice in my area and I knew that I wanted to take that and parlay it into something interesting for our items. As I’ve mentioned before, one of the things I am proud of is being able to take inspiration from pretty much anywhere and well, our first snow of the season is certainly a thing to behold.

In the 5E version, movement is something to be consumed and used. As such it makes sense to up the movement speed a bit more on this item. I mostly wanted it to be a useful tool for getting into combat or covering a lot of ground quickly so long as you’re moving in a straight line. Funnily enough, the restriction of moving in a straight line does more than people would expect. There are often obstacles in the way, but say you get a good open ground to slide across. This could absolutely boost you to new speeds.

For the PF2E item, things are a bit different for movement. It’s an action you take, not a resource you consume and with the action economy being as it is, I needed to lessen the movement bonus that would be associated with it. That said, it did allow me to do some interesting experimentation with the icy difficult terrain. I think offering the open to slide around tripping people on the ice seems like a fun little bonus and carves a niche for these boots.

We’re back from PAX Unplugged and I definitely enjoyed getting to see so many people there. I’m already dealing with a light bout of the con crud, but that’s alright. At least it’s much more minor than last year. I’m excited to launch back into creating and share with you all the ideas that came my way as part of the convention!

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
