This week I took things in a slightly different direction. Not sure if I've done a track like this before, but after playing with some ideas, I pulled some inspiration from FFXII (of all places!).
There is a section of the game where you visit a village called Jahara. The people who live there, the Garif, very much come across as a Native American style tribe (wearing animal hides, living in harmony with the land etc.). I love the song that they used there, but it had me scratching my head at the same time, because they use the same song for the opening monologue setting up the plot of the game. It would be like have the Cosmo Canyon theme play during the opening of FF7...
I don't normally start with the drums, but in this case I actually did. It's so integral to the feel of a tune like this that it seemed like the logical starting point. While I was going for that Native feel, I actually was pretty free with my instrument choices. Strings, Banjo, Pan Flute, Didgeridoo, and even a little synth line at the end. Oh plus I added in a chant sample that I recorded a while back, so this is technically my vocal debut for the Patreon tunes. :D
