Although I haven't played any Wing Commander game, in fact I haven't ever even seen it in action, I know it as a classic from the magazines back in the day. From that angle this was an "indirectly" nostalgic episode for me. It sounds like the game got a fair treatment, both for its status as a classic and how it holds up today!
