[Salvos] 644. Demonic Contract (Removed for KU)

(Removed for KU)

Comments

last chapter claimed that she was already lvl 167

I disagree. In the comments on a recent chapter someone wrote Salvos maintains a happy-go-lucky facade even in the face of the reader. Building on that, I think Samuel and Salvos' father-daughter act might be a demonic plot fluffing around an unspoken, ironclad contract: Samuel helps Salvos reunite with Haec and in return Salvos is Samuel's therapist. The prospective goal of this contract is Samuel raising a worthy successor and Salvos becomming the single strongest in the Nexeus. Samuel even dropped Salvos somewhat near his old domain. Both are a lot more clever than they show and Samuel is old AF ontop of that. They are both capable of planning beyond the scope of the hedonistic egos we read about when we get their inner commentary.

Much face was smashed, many blows landed upon the enemy.

Definitely something interesting at class level 150, but I have a hunch we are being guided towards some unexpected developments, such as Haec ending up as the King of Netherworld, and Salvos getting root permissions on Nexeus and basically fixing the Universe-palimpsest.

There's another thing that rubs me the wrong way - the way Samuel treated Salvos: wounded, traumatised, in shock, trying to process everything, in the beginning of the tenth book, where he's not really treating her like a person, but more like a source of personal amusement; he tries to deflate her ego and dumps her in the middle of a wasteland, still wounded and reeling. He owes her a big one, I think, especially since she showed great kindness and empathy to him later. He really needs to make it up to her for being an asshole.

Yeah, I had a similar impression about Regnorex. That's being said, we know now that demons can have two sins, Regnorex might have two as well.

Amazing chapter! I found it very satisfyinng and I can't wait for her class up! Imagine that! She'll be able to level [The World Of My Mind]! [Claw of Corruption] might also be level 2 based on her last stats and I'm curious what has changed!

Dragonmaster_42

I'm almost certain that Regnorex's sin is envy, he doesn't give a crap about the welfare of demons. He didn't try to make things better he just enslaved everyone and copied Samuel's kingdom. He wants to take over the mortal realm because he envies the mortals. He'd also thin skinned short tempered, cowardly and insecure of anyone who might be a threat to him. Humans get along poorly with demons because of Regnorex since he's behind almost every demon they've encountered due to their short life spans even indirectly Belzu even though he was a 'renegade'. I don't know about other mortals though. But spirits remember remember the time before Regnorex and they're alike in many ways.

About a year had passed between Salvos' entry and exit to the Second Layer. It is unclear what Haec & co were doing the whole time. They were probably waiting for the Great Agurus to pass. MelasD was always sloppy with time in Salvos' story. I don't recommend thinking too much about it.

Alexey Gladkich

I have several observations unrelated to the last chapter. First, is the time differential between the concurrent mortal realm/netherworld lines the result of the whole thing being somewhat time-shifted, meaning that there's lots more stuff yet to happen in Netherworld, which would explain the narration there taking its time, or did Salvos simply lose a few years in time dilation? The latter doesn't seem likely because Haec and his team seem to be more-less on the same linear timeline with her, and while time loss of days and weeks at most in the second level is plausible, anything longer than that isn't. My second observation is that demons are gendered for no particular reason, since they reproduce asexually. Having them sexually dimorphous along human patterns doesn't have an obvious reason, but I can accept it being just one of those in-game things. My third observation is that there is an implicit assumption that humans are unjustly biased against demons, and that their perception of demons as inherently evil beings is bigotry, however the fact remains that Salvos is an incredibly rare exception among demonkind. Infant demons and demon larvas seem to be evenly split between nice and selfish/evil, but the world itself seems to favour the survival of the latter kind, and most adult demons are quite nasty. Also, even the demons who had no particularly good reason to be violent against humans, like Lucerna and Belzu, seem to prefer war against humans and find the idea of peaceful cooperation revolting. In those circumstances, prejudice against demons until proven otherwise seems like a valid response. Other than that, I really like the portrayal of humans as a species that thinks very highly of their own ability to pool resources to repel enemies, but in reality they are much better at turning everybody into enemies and treating every "alien" species so poorly it just breeds resentment, and they are also very good at infighting and petty squabbles. I also love Amanda the Pissy Serpent, and hope she isn't just cast aside. :)

Salvos should take some of the collars for study to see if she can't figure out how to remove them or destroy them like she did with Lucerna's.

I wonder how Ultis will develop. Looking forward to more. Can't get enough of Salvos.

Azrie

More! We need more! 😄 Salvos is my favorite MC with Amelia as a close second. Thank you! Rock on

Skylar

Thonk good, Salvos smash.

Kennyevilmonkey

Aliq is absolutely going to betray Salvos at the first opportunity... Ultis is cool though. Seems like she has permanent cast member material!
