Chapter 29: The Bleak City

I have an image of the the monster that Infinity encounters in this chapter which is truly horrific. The artist did a spectacular job with it. I've been debating how to show these sorts of things as they tend to be a mild spoiler for the current chapter and Patreon has no spoiler markup. For the moment I'm going to drop an imgur link here, but will probably create a post for it in the Bonus Content tag later in the week. Not an ideal solution but I haven't come up with a better one yet.

Man... now I really want to write an evil relationship arc. I hadn't considered it, but those two would honestly be very funny to see in a long term relationship. That's not where this is going unfortunately, but I'm adding this to my To-do list, possibly for a totally different series. I'll need to find a different set of bad guys that has something like their chemistry first. Regarding getting invested in characters... If a character has a name, I don't consider them to be a throw-away (generally). However there are some that will have more screen time than others in the long run. I can't talk too much about this without spoilers, obviously, but I did want to mention that ideally I'd like you to be invested in everyone that has a name to some degree. One of the reasons I brought Wernst and Bravic back into the story is because I wanted to flesh them out as characters and really show their humanity (despite Bravic's best efforts to cosplay as a robot). Will they be in the story long term? Probably not... but while they are here I want them to feel real. If I go through the trouble of naming someone I'm going to also give them a full personality and backstory, as that's what I use to determine their actions and motivations. I will say, there's a VERY good chance that people we see in side roles like the two guards will be used for one-off perspectives much later on in the story. Even if they fall out of the main plot, they are essentially checkpoints I can go back to if I need to show things happening at a distance, and they may feature in interludes and prologues / epilogues.

At this point its a safe bet that we will be seeing a lot more of Corona in the future, but what about Tavi's family? The guards had little screentime but they are entertaining nonetheless and sem genuinely good people, but i dont think we will be seeing much more of them. The succubus and the demonologist are a complete wildcard, they could be a single use plot device who will die shortly , ir It might be we just read the start of a volume spanning slow burn romance between veteran demonologist and rookie succubus.
