Susan #100 - Festive Activities

-Or the lack thereof...  But hey, life has its ups and downs!

(I felt it would be better to ignore the 100th entry milestone and instead celebrate when the pregnancy arc is finished.)

December 25, 2017 - (6 days after #99, 27 weeks into Susan's pregnancy)

Nathan finally came home after a long day, too long of a day considering it was Christmas Eve. Upon Susan’s request, he helped out his parents continue the renovation while the hired construction workers were on their earned holidays.

Both of their families were more than willing to accommodate the restrictions Susan had after pulling her back, but she wouldn’t have any of it. She simply wasn’t going to celebrate Christmas this year around.

With two bags in hand, he closed the front door behind him. Dropping the bags in the kitchen and sifting through its content. Excitedly he pulled out the steak and the ingredients for the pan sauce. If he did his job well, he would see his wife’s frown turned upside down. That was his main goal of today.

But then a strange but familiar aroma hit his nose. That iconic fast food smell emerged from somewhere, but in his heart he already knew. He took a deep sigh, leaving the groceries where it was and walked into the open living room. Scaffolding past Susan’s sofa and dropping himself onto the single seater. Their cat Lucky jumped onto his lap eagerly, rubbing its head against Nathan’s hand.

Susan looked awkwardly away from him and the game she was playing. The milking devices tied to her areolas buzzed softly over the battle music coming from the television. Like a kid with their hand stuck in the cookie jar. “I uhm... I was hungry...”

“I see...” He responded before uncharacteristically putting up his feet on the coffee table. Lucky rode out the wave but even the little critter was surprised. “I just- guess I might as well order some food then.”

As Nathan scrolled through the delivery app on his phone, he realized that most restaurants were going to be either extremely busy or simply closed and that ordering food would be rather difficult. He sighs heavily and sets the phone aside, continuing to pet Lucky.

Susan cleared her throat, leaning over to nudge the burger box closer to him. “You can have this if you’d like.”

“Oh I couldn’t, you can just-” Nathan started, but his wife’s blush and averted gaze said more than enough. “...That is your second burger, isn’t it?”

She sighed in response. “J-just take it, okay? I feel bad enough as is.”

Nathan put Lucky on the armrest before standing up, giving Susan a kiss before grabbing the burger. He started munching on it as he observed the game Susan was playing.

“This is new, an action game instead of a shooter?”

“I uh- A friend of mine recommended it...  I’d rather play a shooter but I can’t play them with controllers even if my life depended on it... And even if I did, the ice pack on my back would probably just fall off every time.”

“I see.” He took another bite from the burger. “You’re feeling better then, right?”

Susan nodded. “Pretty~ much. I’m just making sure I don’t overexert myself.”

Their conversation moved to the reason Nathan was late, the construction work on the house. With his parents they solidified the plan to first focus on the master bedroom and the living room below it, starting as a nursery. A failsafe measure in case Susan gives birth before they finish renovating it.

Once Nathan finished his burger and put away the groceries, he nestled himself next to her. Cuddling up to her while she continued to play the game.

It was a quiet Christmas day for them, the quietest for either of them. But not all festive events needed to be flashy, sometimes just having someone special by one’s side is more than enough.
