What do you get when the Marines meets closeted queer? Well, Boots, of course.

We're so excited to be reacting to this Netflix show directed by Phil Abraham, Kyle Patrick Alvarez, Silas Howard, Peter Hoar and Tanya Hamilton, starring the likes of Miles Heizer, Max Parker, Vera Farmiga, and Liam Oh.

Bullied gay teen Cameron (Miles Heizier) joins the Marine Corps with his best friend Ray (Liam Oh) despite risks. In boot camp, they experience profound personal change amid danger, as their platoon confronts both literal and figurative landmines.

Reacting to Boots Episode 4 - "Sink or Swim"

Comments

Don’t re-sign haha! Poor phrasing, I mixed up “reenlist” and “sign” LOL

Bradam

Bradley at 45 minutes did you say don’t resign (quit) or don’t re-sign (like signing reenlistment paperwork?)

Alexandra Trojanowski

I ship Sullicope and I'm not sorry

Nicole

Definitely not ready for Ep 5. Buckle up!

@baydreamer

I agree! That scene is everything!

Andrea Kammerer

And Ray. Holy Childhood Trauma Batman

Samuel B

Doesn’t anyone else miss everything being said when Sullivan comes on screen cause you’re too distracted staring at him? Just me

Samuel B

The scene with Cam and Sullivan at the dumpsters is so good. Miles needs all the awards. When I watched this the first time, I said out loud, "GODDAMN this show is good."

Ludy Darville

Great reaction and a truly fun episode. Love the insight into Ray and how Cam knew how to help him. You’re right that scene where Sullivan is watching them with the bags of tp by the dumpster is gold. That poor snake didn’t deserve that fate. And the way hicks flooded the toilets and dropped his towel! Your reaction was so funny to that!😂

Sullivan 100% sees himself in Cameron thoigh I think initially he's judging him for now trying to appear more masculine presenting like hhe felt the need to. That's when he made him scrive, to mentor and try and make him what hebhas to be to to pass as a straight man but after the scene when the journal get read out loud his soul hurt too because he's the same as Cameron. I do disagree about the Captain though. She was playing the same mental games on Sullivan that they play on the recruits. She's telling him that he has nothing, is nothing and will be nothing without the Marines. It's a mindfuck for lonely emotionally damaged person hiding whole parts of himself from the world and is substituting joy and happiness with professional purpose.

K

it’s soooooo… 🤭🤤

Bradam

THIS!!! And with no resources to aid them after they served their country!!!

Bradam

DEFinitely

Bradam

That jock strap photo spent about 2 weeks as the lock screen on my phone 🤣

K

You got it Adam. Boot camp is about mental warfare on recruits to train the humanity out recruits and turn them into unquestioning killing machines. Thats why they come home fucked up then get jobs in law enforcement and treat their fellow citizens like the enemy.

K

Sullivan doesn’t want to quit. Sullivan see himself in Cam. Sullivan initially wanted to make Cam quit to save him from going through what he did but after Cam proved himself in the gas chamber I think Sullivan’s motivation is to prepare him. The dumpster scene is Sullivan telling Cam what Sullivan needs to hear and that’s why he decided to reenlist. Also, the Captain wasn’t trying to pressure Sullivan to reenlist but from her perspective as a Latina woman she feels the Marines were made for someone like Sullivan, a “straight” white man and that’s why she suggest if I were you I’d be Commandant aka the highest ranking officer in the Marines.

Robert W

A few things: Each branch has a certain amount of years you enlist when you sign up. In the Marines I think it’s 4-5 years of service so every 4-5 years you reenlist and the goal is to hit 20 years so you can retire. The dumpster scene is my absolute favorite because it’s about so much more than just the Marines… it really becomes a larger message to the LGBT community to not let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do in life.

Robert W

Sullivan doesn't want to quit, he was scared to re-enlist because of the investigation. The conversation with Cope made him realise that he was willing to fight for what he wants, he's refusing to be run out of the marines. Whether or not that's what's the best for him, it's what matters to him. (Also acab, especially in regards to the military industrial complex)

Lonely_viking

I think it's so obvious Sullivan sees himself in Cope.

sean carter

So excited for your episode 5 reaction

Lonely_viking

no because yall aren’t ready for ep. 5

Sofi

mind you i had tried saying ‘morning recruits’ 7 times already but i couldn’t get through it

Bradam

I love all your chat in the intro of this concerning Cameron's motivations in the last episode and Nash's reasons for being here.
