Corallians II

Eureka 7 has long been one of my favorite anime and manga. I'm partial to anything that studio BONES puts out, and the twisted inspirations of the 60's and 70's in Eureka 7 give it such a unique aesthetic I don't think any anime has ever replicated. I also, foolishly, thought this piece would be a quick one. When I want a "quick" piece, I tend to go for a specific brush in my collection, the Schulz 2.0.
I don't know/remember where I picked the brush up from, but it's a hard, textured brush with very little opacity dynamic to it. For me, this usually means I need to lean into harsher transitions and more cel-styled shading as opposed to soft blends. I used the same brush for the toilet deer piece, which only took me a day or so to complete. This Corallians piece was a slow slog over a few weeks, time spent in parted little parcels of "How long can I stand to repeat these strokes".
I do still adore the bold colors of this piece, the surreal spacing of it all, and I can't take credit for the faces, really, with them being based off of Klimt's own work, but I have a fondness for Anemone's pointed, wide nose and exposed gap in her teeth.
If I had to go back to this piece, I'd like to bring the coral over anemone's back to look more as if it's growing into her skin, and I'd like to better render out the orange, penis-y corallian at the top. He still looks unfinished to me.
