What an incredible experience this was!!

The last photo, where I’m smiling, was right aft er I got stung, you can see how stiff and nerovous I was. It was my fault for moving my arm quickly that I scared her! I’m not sure why I’m smiling because I felt so bad!

This piece was published in shuba magazine with our (me and the photographer Alessandro Galatoli) message for the bees and for Mother Nature. We must work together, humans and nature to preserve and cultivate the incredible ecosystems that make up this stupendous planet.

Bees are not scary, nor do they want to harm us. There are some amazing bee keepers in Fiesole, Florence, and it’s thanks to them that bee populations are being kept safe, and we got to have this experience. The bees seen here are all orphans. They have been rescued from various places around the city and country side where they would not have survived. They are given a home and a new queen so that they can thrive and flourish as one.
