General Updates and New Art!

Hey there Adventurers! I haven't done a general update in a while so I thought I'd let you know what I've been up to. I don't like keeping you folks in the dark... for long. Mwahahaha

Deck of Many Things

Let’s start with our latest Deck of Many Things poll. 75% of you patrons voted for the Vizier as the next card I create; an important card that grants wisdom to the one who draws it. I’m excited to dive into this one and will hopefully have sketches ready for you all early next week. I'm thinking positive, enlightening vibes for this one as opposed to the horror of The Void.

I also threw together a quick progress GIF of The Void for anyone interested in seeing it. I'm linking to Imgur because Patreon for some reason still doesn't support gifs... grrr

Convention Season

So I attended Chupacabracon (small gaming convention in Round Rock with an amazing name) this last weekend to sell art and sling character sheets! This was my first convention since the start of Covid so I was extremely nervous going into it but it went great regardless of what my brain said might happen. The convention was a blast and I managed to snag some very, very, VERY pretty dice for my wife as a Mother’s Day gift.

So sparkly I know! They're cut from glass! GLASS!

Now on to my stuff! Here’s a picture of my booth setup at the con.

It’s not quite where I want it yet but I was able to display all of my current prints and playmats so it worked just fine for this con. I'll be upgrading before the next convention, which is...

Comicpalooza!! This was my first ever convention to sell at and I'm excited to finally be returning July 15-17. If you're down in Houston and will be in attendance, swing by and say hi!

New Art!

I've got 2 new pieces to share with you and they're both special to me in different ways.

First up is a piece I was initially commissioned to create very soon after Russia invaded Ukraine. The prompt was to create something in support of Ukraine. I generally do not make overtly political art so I took this as a challenge. How could I take this insanely large conflict and turn it into a piece that isn't directly tied to the event in a recognizable way, is fantasy in nature (since that's kind of my thing), and what can I get finished in one to two weeks (since no one saw the conflict lasting any longer than that).

Well here's the result:

I want to make a much longer post diving into all of the thoughts and ideas that spawned this piece so I won't rattle on too long here but the figure all in blue is meant to be Berehynia, a very interesting Slavic mythological figure going up against a mighty dragon.

There's lots of symbolism crammed into the piece and I'm extremely happy with how it turned out given the very fast turn around time.

I've hesitated on sharing the piece much, not because of the work itself, but because the client never finished paying me! This is why we always take half of the payment upfront friends, so that if the client bails it acts as a kill fee for the contract.

The second piece I want to share with you is one that I've been meaning to make for years now. It's my take on the cover for a book by Matt Colville called Priest. It's a great novel that has our main character solving a mysterious death among an order of knights that live deep in the darkest woods.

I poured a lot of time into this one and it went through some heavy revisions part way through. Once again I want to make a whole post just devoted to the process on this one but I fail to find the time right now.

I'll see if maybe I can get a free weekend to cobble something together for y'all.

And that's it!

I mean there's more. There's always more. But here is where I leave you because I've got to get my butt back to work.

Have a great weekend everyone! <3

Thank you Danita! 💚💚💚 Priest was such a good read! I hope Matt eventually finds the time to finish the series.
