He's on ESPN right now. Showing his opponent a lot of respect. Perhaps too much. He is definitely responsible defensively. VERY patient fighter.

David Reid Ran into Trinidad

U were right about Berchelt, he got beat comprehensively and knocked out cold by a moving boxer who made him pay for his mistakes

No sir, he will lose before Haney. I liked him at the Olympics but I can see him getting out worked by a SKILLED fighter. Also I can see him having weight making issues going forward. Devin just on discipline

Skill wise, he is better than all of the so called “4 kings” at 135. I just don’t see any black fighters cracking through the current “NBF” system in boxing right now. The promoters are effectively locking them out of the major title/fight scene with the aide of the WBC and WBA who are just giving them marginalized versions of world titles in order to keep them pacified. This over satuation of titles is effectively choking the life out of the sport, and the current Cold War landscape is even worse than what went on in the 2000’s era.

I’m in agreement. Shakur has a lot of nuance and feel to his game. He understands the craft at a higher level than many other young prospects who are getting more mainstream attention at the moment.
I also agree that his gifts are not on par with Floyd. Floyd has an incredible reach for a boxer of his size while not sacrificing speed or power. Many guys with a good reach tend to be a bit sloppy with their feet and hands.
While I think shakur is destined for quite a career, I dont see him climbing and dominating multiple weigh classes in a way that Floyd did. I have a hard time seeing shakur finding a belt above 140. But we shall see

He reminds me of a smaller Andre Ward. He’s gonna be great

His style is very similar to a young Floyd. Young Mayweather didn’t rely a lot on the shoulder roll technique as much and was a bit more of a traditional boxer puncher. Back then he only went into the shoulder roll and got super defensive only when his opponent tried to rush and smother him.
Only issue is Shakur while he has similar timing and elusiveness as young Floyd it’s clear that he’s just not as physically gifted as Floyd was. It’s subtle but you can see he’s having to work a little harder than Floyd did.

Brian Norman Jr. I’m telling you, he’s next.

I think Shakur is going to be the next p4p fighter besides Devin Haney also. They just have to prove their power more. Shakur seems to be growing into his. Devin Haney seems like a mix between Floyd and Peterson in terms of style and body mechanics. To his credit he did fracture Abdullevs face with his jab. Before the Santiago and Gamboa fight he was thought to have power. Plus he lost some esteem in the Menard fight when compared to Teo. He is getting a new coach though so hopefully they get him to sit in his punches more.
