A Poll on the Untitled Templin Podcast
Added 2022-02-09 21:45:57 +0000 UTCOne of the long gestating projects here at the Institute is the “Untitled Templin Podcast”, a pilot of which can be heard here. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyaLiKkfvQc) While the initial intention behind this was to create a shorter, more highly produced show, we’re started to question if this is the right move.
The advantage of this initial approach is that we could guarantee higher quality audio, remove all the “uhhs and ahhs” from the discussion and just generally make sure the episodes were kept on track and properly structured. The disadvantage is that this kind of podcast would take longer to produce, be shorter (5-15 minutes) and not involve discussion from the community in any way.
Recently however I’ve become very impressed with “live” podcasts streamed on Twitch, YouTube and other platforms. If we adopted this format, we could broadcast the Templin Podcast as its recorded, involve the community in the discussions and make it easier to bring on guests. The disadvantage is that audio quality might be slightly lower (although I’ve been very surprised with the sound quality in some of these “live” podcasts), and that the discussion has the potential to go off the rails.
We also posted this Poll to our YouTube Community page but I wanted to give our Patrons a direct method of getting their thoughts out there!

I prefer shorter podcast.

2022-02-10 08:01:41 +0000 UTCThe Youtube poll seemed to be heavily in favor of the shorter content. However, I think a longer, community-interactive podcast has a much higher potential. I think the main issue with the pilot of the podcast is the fact that it's just 1 person. With it being just you it's kind of redundant with Incoming. Having a community "call-in" section or something could be fun. Plus it could have some method of giving patrons a certain level of involvment as an incentive to subscribe to the patreon.

2022-02-09 22:26:05 +0000 UTCI genuinely belive that the drawbacks of a live podcast are heavily outweighed by the positives. This is just my opinion, but community participation and involvement are extremely important, more so than any slightly reduced audio/visual or production qualities. The ability for us members of the community to be involved with the creators we enjoy is an excellent feeling, and garners a great deal of benefits for both creator and community in my mind. TL;DR: live podcast more good cuz people like involvement
