Jackie Ess! Merch Discount! Dog!

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there. I just got a new computer(!!!!!!!) and am now terrified that it will break if I like, type? or breathe wrong? or something? So I’m writing this very gingerly and feel very silly about it.

This week on the podcast, I had the privilege and the delight of chatting with Jackie Ess, author of Darryl and beloved troll of the internet and beyond.

Photo ID: Jackie smiling at her very large dog.

In this week's episode, we talk about topics including but not limited to:

And moooooore! By the way, I mention that Jackie’s official author photo is of trees. So here it is, the photo from her book jacket! Amazing.

Photo ID: A heavily vignetted and saturated photo of three trees in autumn.

In other news, the International Olympic Committee rudely dropped a landmark policy change for trans and intersex athletes like one day after we wrapped our second straight week of Olympic/Paralympic coverage on the podcast. (I mean, the timing was rude — the news was very, very good. Click through to learn more, or wait until next Monday when we will surely mention it.)

You’ve only got a fortnight (that’s two weeks, right?) left to shop our last merch collection of the year, and to thank you for supporting the show, I created a little promo code for ya! Use the code DARRYL by Monday, 11/22, to get 10% off your entire order in our merch shop. (I always feel weird making discounts when the proceeds go to trans artists and orgs, but you deserve it, I think??) We have SO MANY new designs; don't miss them!

OK, not too much else from us this week. Next week’s guest is like eight months in the making… I hope you are excited to hear about how THINGS ARE BAD AND GETTING WORSE!

Thanks so much for being here and supporting the show. I just ran the numbers, and even with the ads we’ve been running this year, Patreon still makes up more than 96% of our funding. We literally couldn’t do it without you! Thank you x 1000.

Here’s your weekly Rhubarb, taken during my weekly production meeting with Producer Jules.

Photo ID: Ruby the cat perched on a white railing. Her green eyes and huge droopy whiskers are stealing the show.

Xoxo,
Yr resident gender detective

PS: saying “Producer Jules” reminded me that we started really important American Girl discourse on twitter the other day, if you missed it.
