She came from a humble background but managed to climb far enough up the social ladder to be put in charge of the imperial harem after the death of the Empress. After her husband passed away as well and her filial son succeeded him, her position as top dog was cemented.
Getting on a dragon's bad side is a bad idea in general, but you'll want to be extra careful around this one.
(Her look isn't period accurate to the Qianlong Era. Her sense of fashion was heavily inspired by Empress Dowager Cixi's wardrobe. I figured that comparisons to the 19th century Empress Dowager were going to be made no matter what I did, so I just went with it. It also helps her stand out.)
