How Should I Do Weekly Streams?

new or old, you should just play whatever you're most motivated to play at the time. you'll enjoy it more and the viewers will get the most out of it that way, too.

I like the idea of pushing Mike to play new things so he gets an excuse to play stuff on his backlog. I voted for the mixed option though as I'm okay with whatever gives Mike more options.

For playing games on a first playthrough, something that might be fun is to have a Patron who's familiar with the game join you on voice chat to help you out for the fist session of that game. If you are going into a new game completely blind, sometimes it's helpful to have someone there to explain certain obtuse mechanics or what about the game they really enjoy. Maybe that person could also help you out by keeping an eye on the discord chat to bring up relevant points from others as you play. Like a stream "co-pilot" of sorts. But don't bother trying to coordinate a specific game or time for people to join you. It doesn't have to be a specific person. Just ask patrons who are present in the discord chat if they want to jump on the stream for 10 - 30 min to help you out or just talk about the game as you play. I think the goal of these extra streams should be to have fun and interact with the patrons. The game you choose doesn't have to be for hardcore analysis, just a casual playthrough and having fun with the patrons. A hangout stream.

If you end up including games you've played before, I prefer games where you don't already know every last detail. I generally find those kinda playthroughs to be less interesting.

I agree, the podcasts are kind of meant for deep diving into games and since making time for playing newer games is tough as you get older, this kind of ‘encourages’ playing newer games or games Mike might’ve wanted to play but never found the time to. I would love to see Mike play games that he hasn’t experienced before since even, I, myself can barely make time to play new games 😂 that’s just me being a little bias but I would be happy with whatever choice wins.

I’m thinking of Option 1 since it creates a bit more of a distinction between this and the regular / Patreon podcasts where the analysis tends to be centred on games that you’ve done before. But I’d be happy for Mike to be able to play anything he wants c:

I’m going to vote for option 2 just because that way it gives you the option of which you want to do more :). You guys are busy enough, let these streams end up being a way to decompress and have fun! It would be tough though to name playing new and already played games. For never played before games though you could do “First Play Fridays” or “First Time Fridays”? For older games you could do “Game Play Fridays”?

Best I can do for somewhat/not -at-all clever names right now is Archive Expansion. I'm not sure if you've played it yet, but I recently played and really enjoyed Pillars of Eternity (particularly the writing) and if its viable for the new game stream I'd love to see you play that and get some takes on it.

While I'm excited about seeing new, fresh titles, I wouldn't want to bar older games if there's a good reason to cover them. Should be fun either way!
