That is a very cool way to out it, and it also makes Echidna absolutely terrifying. Though I suppose that fits the description of Greed perfectly... Such a well written story, my god.

Let me explain the contract a bit more: Echidna was going to use Subaru in order to satisfy her own greed; she would make him return by death as many times as she wanted just to see how things would play out. Echidna cannot understand human emotions: The way she acted and presented herself all this time, was all just an act in order to appeal to Subaru and make him accept her contract. At heart, she is just the personification of insatiable greediness who would do anything to try to satisfy her greed. The author mentioned that with Echidna's help, it would've taken Subaru 10 000 loops to get his desired ending in Arc 3. Think of the contract like this: Subaru is a speedrunner. He wants to get his desired ending with the least deaths possible, and is not willing to sacrifice anybody in order to do so. Echidna, however, is like a completionist in a video game. She would redo and restart things as many times as possible in order to see how it would affect the loop. Here would be another point of divergence for the IF stories: the Greed IF story details what would've happened if Subaru had accepted Echidna's contract, and without spoiling much, it is really depressing... once you finish season 2 you should definetly check out Echidnut's summary of it on his youtube channel. Anyways, the next couple episodes are amongst my favorites of this season. Keep it up!

Like I mentioned in the reaction, I felt it was really sweet how she appeared in front of him when he needed emotional support the most, and somehow he had control of what shape would appear before him, I can't think of any other reason why Rem WOULDN'T appear... yknow? She told Subaru to lean on her, and after all this I'm sure he missed her a lot, and remembered the time when she helped him, thus she appeared. I might be a dummy though and I'm overthinking it lol

2021-12-27 18:14:33 +0000 UTCTalk about a fucking cliffhanger, jeez. I don't understand how this show manages to reliably get better every single episode. The second trial with the 'unthinkable presents' is a very horrifying concept, and the world continuing has been something I was sort of curious about(and hoping was not the case) ever since the credits of episode 15 continued for like 2 minutes straight after he died. Seeing Rem, albeit a fake Rem, was a very emotional experience. I have missed her so much in such a short time, and I think Subaru really needed to hear her voice, even if it wasn't her talking. I'm curious, do you think there is any significance to Carmilla appearing as Rem, rather than anybody else? They seemed to put at least a little bit of emphasis on the fact that she didn't choose to appear as Rem.
