Another Endgame Snippet

Many of the snippets I'm posting are from the original Endgame, which is why they're written in a more novel-like format that script format. Some have been slightly edited to somewhat align more with the new vision for the project, but are largely still in the original form.

These scene, I think I will still keep but I'm not entirely sure. Story edits for the beginning/prologue may necessitate the removal of it but we'll see!

In this Scene, the MC (currently named Ema - but who knows if it'll stay LoL) wakes up in an unfamiliar place and panics.

***

When I awoke, there were two men leaning over me.I only saw them through a hazy blur of light and shadow.

Danger!

The word flashed through my mind, and panic settled as a dead weight at the pit of my stomach. W--what was going on!?

Try to get away.

Stay put and see what happens.

Try to get away:

I barely saw their features as I bolted upright.

Have to get away!

The men jumped back, but I was already airborne, shoving myself up from the bed, before the blonde one could get out of my way. I actually had no idea how to fight, but through the haze, just sort of did whatever came natural. My elbow connected solidly with the side of his face and he headed for the floor. We hit the ground at the same time, but while he sprawled, dazed, I ran clumsily for the door.

“Magnus!”

I heard the second man calling to the other as I exited the room, my bare feet slapping against the tiled floor.

There were people in the hall—I saw them as blurs as I passed. Nurses, doctors in white coats wheeling medical machinery around. A dark haired woman whose mouth formed a little ‘o’ as I sprinted past. I didn’t stop for any of them. When someone attempted to step in my way, I bowled them over, sort of stumble-leaping over a gurney being wheeled past. How I managed that without falling on my face, I'll never know.

I rounded a corner, nearly toppling myself at the sharp turn. My fingers brushed the floor as I regained balance and continued my escape.

I could hear the sounds of people after my and, as I ran by another gurney, I pulled it out and pushed it back behind me. Everything I passed, I threw in the paths of whoever was after me. I didn’t know where I was, or who they were.

I knew I was not staying.

I rounded another corner and swept a stack of papers off a desk as I ran passed.

How do I get out!?

There were no exit signs that I could see. I passed a tall doctor with light brown hair. Surprise was written on his face and he put one arm out as if to stop me.

“Wait!”

I ignored him and bolted past. My side was burning and I put a hand up, wincing as my fingers touched bruising, bandages, and what felt like the remnants of surgery.

I saw a sign for stairs ahead, and made a beeline, bursting through the door. I glanced down once, then skittered down a few steps before launched myself precariously over the railing to the landing a few feet down. Rinse, repeat.

A door burst open above me, and thundering footsteps on the stairs.

“You! Stop!”

It was the brown haired man from my bedside. A name flitted through my foggy thoughts -the barest light of recognition, then it was gone - swallowed by the panic and the haze.

And I didn't stop.

How far up I was, I didn't know, but I exited the stairwell through the first door I found, and fled into an empty hall. My side was screaming in protest, sending rivulets of pain through my hip and leg. I...had...to rest...

I started down the hall, but skidded to a halt when a fuzzy figure appeared at the end of it.

No!

I veered into a room on my right and slammed the door, shoving a hospital bed across it, letting out a little moan of pain.

The room was dark...no windows. No escape.

I doubled over, gasping as stabbing pain shot through my side again. Behind me, someone tried to open the door. The bed made a horrific scrape as it was pushed sideways. I grabbed a glass jar with swabs from a nearby counter and hurled it at the opening. It shattered and whoever was trying to come in jerked the door back. There were voices outside—an angry one and one that sounded amused.

Exhausted...hurting...I sank against the far wall, trying to catch my breath as my vision went more and more fuzzy. The voices argued outside, fading to an annoying buzz. I shouldn’t have cornered myself in this room but it…hurt. I hadn’t realised it at first, but now that I wasn't moving, I ached everywhere

Someone tried to open the door again and I responded with another glass jar. “S-Stay away!”

There was silence on the other side.

The door opened an inch. “We’re not going to hurt you,” someone said. Based on the silhouette in the window, I thought it was the blonde.

“Go to hell,” I readied another glass jar.

“What are you going to do once you run out of jars?” the voice asked. I responded with the jar in my hand.

The door slammed shut again, but this time I heard laughter.
