Hey everyone! While production on Endgame is mostly a weekend/occasionally evening thing right now, I have been experimenting in my free time with the possibility of customization for the MC.
If we do include this in the game, it will be limited (most likely) to hair and skin color. My main concern at this point is how to do the CGs. Creating a customizable sprite is easy. Having that reflected in CGs is not so much because even if there are just 5 hair colors and 5 skin colors, that makes many more variations.
I'm sure there are a couple of ways to do it but which is the best one and whether it's worth it are different matters.
But at the very least, I've been looking at the best way to recolor skin/hair for a sprite. And I wanted to show some of the things I've done so far.

For this one, I only partially recolored her, so the lips aren't quite looking right.

There is also one more hair color and one more skin color, but that one required a bit more recoloring around the nose and mouth and since I was just playing around the day I did these, I didn't bother to fully recolor since I just wanted to check the overall look. So her face looks really odd here. It would obviously be recolored properly in-game.

Anyway, I still don't know if we're going to attempt customization for Endgame. The sprite is doable, but the CGs are my concern. I still need to look into ways to set them up that will save me having to do 25 versions of every CG that depicts the main character and just get a feel for how difficult that might be to do in various game engines!
I'm sure it's manageable - it's just a question of how, and if it's worth the effort!
