Main Character customization (redux)

Hey everyone!

I wanted to do another quick post regarding what we're planning for the MC customization in Endgame (which is being re-titled to "Where Sun Meets Shadow" though I may keep calling it Endgame for a while. LoL)

So above you can see the skin tones I'm currently playing around with.

I am thinking that, unfortunately, the darker skin tone is a little too dark and doesn't look quite as good recolored so I may bump it slightly lighter - just by a few hex codes. I really want to keep a proper very dark brown skin tone but I also need it to look good. There is also a much bigger jump from the middle tone (which is the default tone) to the darker tones than there is from the middle to the lighter ones. So I think I'm going to adjust that very slightly.

I'm only really considering the sprite to be semi-customizable as there are fairly limited options. And I'm not currently planning to allow selection of eye color. (That isn't set in stone but if you remember from the GUI preview, it was just skin, hair, and name).

Anyway, these are the colors I'm currently planning on. I feel like they're pretty standard. With the silver/white hair, I didn't go pure white but more of a silvery platinum color instead.

And because colors always look different when you can see them against other colors, here are the sprites with skin+hair+clothes. Obviously the hair and skin colors with be mix and match, so these are just showing a few possible variations.

First is Morgan's default hair and skin color. This is how she'll look if the player doesn't change anything.

Lightest two colors together. I'm a bit unsure how to handle the eyebrows. Pairing them with the hair color could cause some issues on darker skin tones since light eyebrows are tricky to manage against dark colors. But very dark eyebrows are tricky to manage against light skin tones. I may actually try to pair the eyebrows with the skin tone instead and just use lighter to darker shades of brown and black for them.

Blonde hair with the medium-light skin tone.

Red hair with the medium-dark skin tone.

And black hair with the darkest skin tone. I was originally going to go with a neutral sort of black (like the outfit) for the hair, but it looked a little weird against the warm brown. So I ended up going with a slightly warmer black-brown for the hair because it looks better.

You can see how the shirt goes from looking black against the lighter tones to sort of charcoal against the darkest tones. That's fine for clothes, but it looks gross for hair. So, especially with the black hair, I want to find a base color that looks good against all the skin tones.

Anyway, these are just previews. I'll continue to mess with the palettes a bit until I am totally (or at least mostly) satisfied with how they look. But I'm looking forward to implementing this into the game. It's not exactly full customization, but it's a step toward that end, anyway.

I'm sure I'll have more to show off in this regard as time goes on.

The combinations look really amazing. I love the skin tones and hair colours <3

She's looking amazing! I really love the default, but it'll be fun to play around with other combinations for all the routes. ^_^ I do like the idea of pairing eyebrow color with skin tone rather than hair color. I think that would end up looking better on the whole, and besides, not everyone has eyebrows that match their hair in real life, anyway. ^_^
