Yuu Sasaki - Introduction and Snippets

Yuu is one of our Kickstarter stretch goals. We've talked about him a fair amount on the server but as the player doesn't get a chance to interact with him at all in the common route, I decided to post some snippets and information about him.

I have posted snippets and things about him on the server but I wanted to do a much longer post about him for patrons.

Name: Yuu Sasaki

Age: 29

Class: Nano

Rank: Rook (abnormal)

Skill set: Bio-kinesis; primarily enhancements in the function of the cerebral cortex, visual acuity, and physical speed and dexterity.

Personality: Yuu has an intense personality. He's quite eccentric and tends to frequently talks to himself (sometimes about people  while they're standing right next to him.) He sometimes forgets personal space is a thing. He is very protective of his patients an genuinely cares for their well-being. He also likes kids and has a soft spot for orphans.

He has a surprisingly flirty side as well. The moment he's interested in someone, he will definitely go after them with great determination. Enjoys teasing others.

Background: Yuu was "born" on New Terra. He was created in a lab where they were doing illegal nanite experimentation. When the project was discovered, Sasaki and all the other test subjects were going to be destroyed as part of a government cover-up.

Yuu and a couple of of the kids escaped and lived on their own for a few weeks in a disused space between decks. They were slowly picked off, but Yuu was able to escape detection for some time. In a very rare move, the government of New Terra brought in Endgame to find him.  He was taken to the surface of Altair and inducted into Endgame.

He was raised in the organisation and, over time, became bright, friendly child with insatiable curiosity. He was a staff favourite and excelled in his classes - though not his physical training. He was quite sickly has a child due to malnutrition and he was never considered suitable for fieldwork. Instead, he went into medicine and, despite his young age, became the head of the medical division after his previous mentor retired.

He is an "abnormal" rook that doesn't show any signs of being F-Class in spite of his strange attributes. He does not usually enhance his physical abilities but mostly his mental abilities. His IQ and observation skills are far above average due to this unconscious enhancement. He can enhance his other attributes but rarely does, as it is extremely physically taxing and he's very prone to bouts of psi-fatigue when he does so.

And now for some snippets. Sasaki doesn't (currently) have a huge place in Ari's route. Really, just two scenes for the time being. The flirty aspect of his personality doesn't really come across but I think you can somewhat get a feel for him.

(Please remember these are just rough drafts with very little editing).

---

Morgan: "Dr Sasaki?"

Ari: "Correct."

"(Figures.)"

Sasaki: "How strange. I don't think I signed a release on this patient. It's almost as if you took her without permission, isn't it Ariel?"

"He placed the display in his hand against the lower half of his face, peering at me over the top of it."

Sasaki: "But you would never take one of my patients without prior approval, would you?"

Morgan: "He didn't 'take' me anywhere. I asked to go for a walk."

"The man didn't acknowledge what I said. But as soon as he was in arm's reach, he tucked the display under one arm and caught me by the chin, lifting my face slightly."

Sasaki: "The patient has excess lacrimal fluid on her face. Tissue around the eyes is swollen. Blood vessels in the eyes and conjunctiva appear enlarged..."

Sasaki: "Are you experiencing emotional distress?"

"(Excess lacrimal fluid?? Why is everyone here so weird?)

Morgan: "I'm currently experiencing minor annoyance. Can you please let go of my face?"

"When he didn't immediately do so, I reached up to remove his hand. But he grabbed my wrist instead, placing two fingers just below my thumb."

Sasaki: "Still experiencing tachycardia. You shouldn't be up."

Sasaki: "That, of course, goes without saying. Considering you hadn't been released yet, even an idiot would know they shouldn't be up or allow a patient to walk out of the infirmary."

Sasaki: "And this the second time you've left your room without permission."

"Well, Ari had said he'd complain..."

Ari: "We were just about to return."

Ari: "Morgan went through quite a lot to arrive here. She wanted to see the grounds. I didn't think a short walk would be too much -"

Sasaki: "Did you consult your medical degree before making that assessment, Ariel?"

Ari: "I believe you're well aware I don't have one."

Sasaki: "In that case, perhaps you should stick to teleportation and leave the thinking to those of us better at it. In the meantime, I'll be taking my patient back."

"His fingers looped around my wrist and he started pulling me away. I bit back a sigh. Maybe I should start getting used to being passed around like an object."

Ari: "I'll accompany you."

"Dr Sasaki prodded me toward the door, sparing only a quick, disparaging glance back at Ari."

Sasaki: "Unnecessary. Instead, why don't you report that she's awake to that forgetful imbecile in charge."

"(The...what, now?)"

Ari: "Making a report to Magnus about her condition does not preclude the possibility of me seeing her back to her room."

"(...Did he just call the leader of Endgame a forgetful imbecile?)"

Sasaki: "Your participation isn't required."

"I shot Ari a look over my shoulder as I was ushered out of of the room by the doctor. It didn't seem as though he would follow us, which actually surprised me a little."

"Another soft sigh escaped as I walked."

"I shouldn't have exploded at him like that. He didn't deserve it."

"He, like everyone else here, was just doing his job, following orders, or whatever.""It wasn't as if he was the one who made the decision to do any of this."

"My problems coping weren't his fault."

Sasaki: "A sigh...most definitely a sign of stress."

Sasaki: "Could the residual effects of psi-fatigue be causing an emotional instability?"

"I heard the doctor muttering to himself as he walked beside me."

"Was he really going to be analysing every single thing I did?"

"He flipped through the display, casually observing me out of the corner of his eye."

"When he noticed me looking back, that didn't stop him at all. In fact, that seemed to encourage him. His lips curved up into an odd little smile."

Sasaki: "You appear to be recovering well, though."

Morgan: "...Thanks?"

Sasaki: "They say you initiated a psi-burst powerful enough to bring down an entire building."

Morgan: "Do they? Unfortunately, I don't really remember it all that well."

Sasaki: "What a pity. Of course, we have recordings from Ariel and Caleb, who witnessed it first hand. But those haven't been turned over to me yet."

Sasaki: "It would have been fascinating to hear how you did it."

Sasaki: "Or, even better, to witness one myself. Psi-bursts themselves are difficult to achieve. Generally only bishops and queen ranks are able to create psi-bursts of note."

Morgan: "Is that...is that so?"

"Dr Sasaki tapped the display against his chin, smiling at me over the top of it."

Sasaki: "Perhaps when you've recovered you would would be willing to demonstrate one? I have a great many theories about your abilities I'd like to test.""

Morgan: "I'm not really thinking that far ahead yet..."

Sasaki: "Of course not."

Sasaki: "Of course. And we mustn't forget that psi-fatigue recovery can take some time."

Sasaki: "For you to achieve that sort of psi-burst without training caused tremendous mental stress. There was even mild brain damage."

Morgan: "Brain damage!?"

"(That's just what I need on top of everything else.)"

Sasaki: "We managed to repair it, of course."

Sasaki: "But you didn't think you could put that much strain on your nervous system with no consequences did you? Or perhaps you did. Your records indicate you may not have been aware you were an Esper."

Morgan: "I didn't think much of anything when I did that. I was just...panicked."

Sasaki: "Is it possible this is all quite new to you?"

Morgan: "You've all done your research on me. It's not like you don't know."

Sasaki: "How fascinating. A queen so adept at mimicking normal psi-waves even she was unaware of her level."

Sasaki: "You truly are a unique case, aren't you?"

Ari: "Doctor, were you not returning her to her room to rest?"

"Ari's sudden appearance may have startled me, but Dr. Sasaki didn't act the least surprised."

Sasaki: "And weren't you going to give a report to the forgetful imbecile?"

Ari: "There's time yet for that. I never indicated I would be leaving Morgan in your care before I did so."

Sasaki: "Hmph."

Morgan: "In any case, I'm fairly certain this is my room anyway."

Morgan: "I can just go...rest. Alone."

--

(Mild spoilers are in this bit)

Sasaki: "Morgan Leone. My apologies for keeping you waiting. I'm ready for you, now."

"I gave Sasaki a slight nod and turned back to Trent."

Morgan: "That's me."

Morgan: "If I hear anything about Gina, I'll let you know."

"I started away from him but he caught my arm."

Trent: "Hey."

Morgan: "What?"

"He definitely looked like he wanted to say something, but he just shook his head."

Trent: "No, nevermind. Try to get some rest tonight."

Morgan: "I will. You do the same."

"He nodded and I left him there, following Sasaki to a nearby exam room."

#infirmary room

"Dr Sasaki checked all my vitals while quietly chiding me about overworking on my first time out."

"He had darker than normal circles under his eyes and I could only imagine his day had also been pretty busy."

"They had sent out medical teams to help with triage out in the city. I didn't know if that meant he had gone out as well. But I was sure there were enough injured and exhausted agents to keep him busy as well."

"There were plenty of civilians who lived at the Tower but worked out in the surrounding area..."

"I listened to him absently, my mind far away as he chatted to me."

"After a while he paused and looked at me over the top of his display."

Sasaki: "Your physical well being aside, how are you coping with today's events on an emotional level, Morgan?"

"I gave him a long look, not knowing if he was asking in his capacity as my physician, or just out of genuine worry."

"He did tend to be a bit of a mother hen over people he regarded as his patients."

"I sighed and rubbed my head."

Morgan: "I'm not sure..."

Sasaki: "You are exhibiting signs of stress. You are also far less verbally responsive than usual."

Morgan: "I don't know. It was just a long day. I'm really tired."

Sasaki: "Yes. You are showing symptoms of fatigue. Not to mention mild dehydration - when was the last time you had something to drink?"

Morgan: "I guess when we first got back."

Sasaki: "You will rectify this when you return to your quarters, yes?"

Morgan: "Yes. I promise I will guzzle as much water as my body can hold."

Sasaki: "Hmm...irritability as well..."

"I huffed an annoyed sigh at him but he was definitely unperturbed."

Morgan: "It was a long day, Doctor. Seeing the city like that..."

Morgan: "There were so many injured people. Damaged buildings, trapped civilians..."

Morgan: "I just don't want to talk about it."

Sasaki: "I heard you had a close call as well."

Morgan: "Well, there was also that."

Sasaki: "Found an unexploded device as I understand?"

"I squeezed my eyes shut, the image of that thing lying there immediately springing to mind. And the feeling of terror...that moment I was utterly convinced I was going to die."

"I felt a surprisingly gently hand on my shoulder."

Sasaki: "Morgan, it is unnecessary to force yourself to think about it."

"My eyes flew open. He was just calmly stating something like that? Not giving me an analysis of my body language or something?"

Sasaki: "It was certainly a traumatising experience. Wanting to avoid discussing it even if you're unable to stop ruminating on it mentally is natural."

Sasaki: "I will put in a request for time off. And for you to speak to a counsellor."

Morgan: "That's not necess -"

I stopped when I saw the look on his face.

Sasaki: "Morgan...tell me...in the few weeks since I last saw you, did you receive a medical degree without my knowledge?"

Morgan: "...No."

Sasaki: "Ah. As expected."

"(That irritatingly smug smile...)"

Sasaki: "I will put in a request for time off. And a counsellor."

Morgan: "Right..."

Sasaki: "Many people deny symptoms of post traumatic stress or try to diminish them and convince themselves their trauma is insignificant."

Sasaki: "However, you were quite literally pulled off the street by the idiots at the top. You do not have the years of training the rest of us have."

Sasaki: "Today was undoubtedly both eye-opening and unnerving. It's well within the realm of natural human behaviour to experience symptoms of trauma."

Sasaki: "Best to deal with them head on than delay treatment."

Morgan: "I...understand."

Sasaki: "Now, moving onto other things."

Sasaki: "Vitals are mostly normal. Heart rate and blood pressure are slightly elevated - to be expected given today's events."

Sasaki: Reduced cortisol levels and increased pain activity in the supraspinal region. I would imagine you have a bit of a headache."

Morgan: "A bit, yes."

"He frowned as he stared down at the device in his hand."

Sasaki: "And as I thought...you were also scanned."

Morgan: "Scanned? What do you mean by that? When?"

Sasaki: "As to when, I'm afraid I can't say for certain other than that it was several hours ago."

Sasaki: "Nor can I say say by whom. However, you're not the only one showing signs of having your psi-waves scanned."

Sasaki: "I've observed numerous agents today showing signs of some sort of deep brain scan."

Morgan: "...What? How do you -"

Sasaki: "Certain types of devices leave small disruptions in an Esper's psi-wave pattern."

Morgan: "And I'm showing that disruption."

Sasaki: "Correct."

Morgan: "What does that mean?"

Sasaki: "I can't say. Yet."

Morgan: "Surely...there's no connection to the explosions today..."

Sasaki: "An interesting suggestion, though. Isn't it?"

"Morgan: "..."

Sasaki: "That is not something for you concern yourself with, Morgan."

Sasaki: "For the time being, I suggest you return to your room. Your blood sugar is low. Have something to eat. And drink."

Sasaki: "And get some sleep."

Sasaki: "Shall I prescribe a sleep aid?"

Morgan: "I don't want an injection. But if it's something I can decide to take later on, then fine."

Sasaki: "We can give you a capsule to take as needed."

Morgan: "All right. Then yes. I'd appreciate having that."

Sasaki: "Very well. You're free to go."

Morgan: "Thank you. And..."

"I paused at the door, considering whether or not I should say this."

Morgan: "I may not exactly be a doctor, but you look like you should get some rest too."

"Surprise flashed on his face, then the usual small smile."

Sasaki: "I'll take your assessment under consideration in spite of your lack of medical degree. Good night, Morgan."

Morgan: "Good night."

Comments

It's probably not safe for your liver. LoL It's also a running joke for other people to mention it so that increases the mentions! I'm not sure how bad he'll be in his own route since, presumably, he has to give up on being Morgan's personal physician to be in a relationship with her. So he might not mention it as much. LoL But then again... 8D Mwa ha ha!

Steamberry Studio

Is it safe to make a drinking game of how many times he mentions having a medical degree? xD
