10/01 Patreon Devlog

Hey Everyone! 

Sorry I'm late again! ;A; Omg. I don't know why I keep waking up on Friday morning and being incredibly certain it's Thursday morning! This is weird. >=V

At some point my brain will readjust and then I'll probably start thinking Thursday morning is Friday morning again.

And one day...ONE DAY…there will be equilibrium. And I will wake up on Friday and go "Wow, it's Friday!"

Writing:

I finished doing the edit of Caissa's Chapter Two and have spent time working on Chapter Three this week! 

Caissa's route is now up to 25,000 words. Chapter Three was completely outlined out but I've deviated fairly significantly from the outline at this point. Jack had an unplanned appearance and now the lesson the player is reading about has taken on a slightly different tone than I originally intended.  

We'll see how well things flow at the current pace though I feel like I might need to spice it back up a little at some point.

I do like a little conversation that has sprung up about how Morgan "visualises" psi. This comes up in Ari's route but it's only addressed in a very tertiary sort of way. She mentions it in her internal dialogue, but there's no real analysis.

In this scene, Morgan and Veli have a discussion about how her brain is basically translating the psi it can sense into a sort of visual image for her. (In her case she sees it as a sort of coloured smoke or glow around someone. Mostly because that's convenient for me to do art-wise). 

It's not like there's really glowing smoke there. That's just how her brain is processing what her sensory system is picking up.  And there's a conversation that springs up on this topic and about how we have no way of knowing whether anything in the universe around us really is the way we perceive it to be. We're totally at the mercy of our sensory systems and brain's processing ability to make sense of that input.

Is a bird really a bird or do we perceive it that way because that's the only way our brain can make sense of whatever a "bird" is?

This week in art….

I worked on some sprite expressions for a character who appears toward the end of Chapter Four. Though I don't expect Chapter Four to become publicly available until the full game releases, I do expect to release it to patrons early so I'd like to have all the necessary sprite work done. 

Vanessa's sprite has been complete for a long time - minus her expressions. So now they're finally out of the way. 

I did a few other KS related artworks as well. Mostly boring stuff like making a "play demo" button or a progress bar.

Coding: 

There was really nothing to code this week.

Demo:

I did well and did not do an early release of Chapter three of the demo! *sweats*

I was tempted. I prevailed.

If I can just wait another week.

*sweats more* The 14th was the very earliest I said I'd release it and that's next Tuesday. So I can hold out.

Upcoming Week:

This coming week will just be writing. Maybe some art. 

I kind of want to do a redesign of Lance's outfit and he actually still needs his expressions as well. So I may end up doing that this week. 

But mostly I want to finish Caissa's chapter three and move on to chapter four! Writing is the big hurdle so it's good to just focus on it when I can.

As much art as there is to do, I can still chug away at that and get a more significant chunk of art done in a given day than I can writing just because there's so much more writing to do than art.

So I will be writing...writing….writing….and writing for forever!

Well, not forever. But for a while. LoL

Right before any big release or event, it feels like we hit this period of dead space where things are happening but it feels like everything is standing still. And, as we gear up for the KS it feels like we've hit that dead space.

Even though I've been working and doing things. 

Maybe I should start counting how many times I proofread the KS page toward things accomplished. Because I'm on like...5000 I think. >3
