Ramble

Hi everyone. We have reached December. Somehow.

Let's jump in. But first!

Leaky Roof Saga:

Someone came and verified the roof is leaking...again. (A different person).

Then someone came to look at the roof (not just the ceiling inside) where they verified that a tree branch had impaled the roof THROUGH THE TILES and was still there. Which we knew. Which we had reported. This is the first time they sent someone up to the roof to actually look at it.

He removed the branch and at least replaced the broken tiles though the hole itself isn't repaired or anything.

We have no idea what their next step is. Presumably getting someone to patch the hole up...at some point.

Summary

Writing

The total word count is 448,000 words.

So one of the things I really hate about this game structure is spending WEEKS on the same chapter. In GS, a chapter is usually somewhere between 6 - 10,000 words (Changeling was more or less the same). That's usually 1 - 2 weeks of writing.

And it's pretty ingrained into my brain that a chapter takes two weeks to write. But see, a chapter in WSC is anywhere from 25k - 60k words. That means it takes 4 or 5 or 6 weeks to write one chapter. It feels endless.

This route has at least another 6000 words in it. This will put it just under 30,000 words when it's done.

The main reason why chapters end up so long is that very often, each LI will have 2000 or so words of one x one content with the MC. That, by itself is 12,000 words across all 6 LIs.

And on top of that, I have to have the establishing "common" scenes. This is where a lot of the plot happens in most chapters. This typically ranges from somewhere just under half to somewhere just over half of the content in most chapters.

So yeah, the chapters tend to be quite long. At 30,000 words and a pace of about 6500 words a week (my current writing pace), that's 5 weeks on the same chapter.

It's frustrating because even though I can see my word count going up and I know I'm writing and making progress there is also a feeling of being stuck in the same place.

I am not really a fan of it.

Art

Received another BG art. We're nearly done with the ship environments. Almost!

Also worked on a new character art (that'll get released at some point).

GS Stuff

Worked on the profiles in the lore book.

In obsidian I have the character broken into "main characters", "major characters" and then "side characters"

I forgot that I had a whole section of side characters so when I finished all the major characters I was excited and thinking "Wow, that wasn't as bad as I thought!"

Then I saw the side characters section and opened it with shaking hands and a sense of impending doom. Because...it's the largest section, of course.

Then I nearly wept at all the profiles I still have to add.

Upcoming

More of the same. Honestly I'm waiting for a day I'll be able to put something different here ha ha. But I'm in writing purgatory.

I am hoping to be finished with chapter 5.5 (or close to it) by the end of next week.

We are heading into the final weeks of the year and things are a little hectic for me at the moment. Updates may be a little late or sparse in upcoming weeks.

But I have posts queued up until the beginning of 2024 so there won't be a gap in Patreon updates.

We have the last of the music room artworks (Yren) going out, a few more Veleian astrology posts going out. some other character art. Some Mylorien eye-related lore going out. And I'll do a year-end wrap up at some point too to talk about everything accomplished this year.

So keep an eye out for all of that.

That's all for now.

Comments

Writing purgatory is a hard place to be. I hope you find time to enjoy the holidays, even from purgatory. ;)
