I enjoyed the videos. I found the second one had a lot in it that I had not appreciated, particularly the emphasis on FCEV and BEV both having uses for different types of transport and the mass penalty for long range on BEV. What are your thoughts on Toyota's sponsorship of the series? Did you maintain editorial control for the series? It might be worth having a statement in the description about this.

I forget if this is covered in detail in the videos but it's an interesting question and source of confusion. Electricity is used to rip apart (electrolysis) the water molecule into its constituent atoms which end up as hydrogen gas molecules and oxygen gas molecules. There's no nuclear fusion or fission here. They probably sell the oxygen as that would be part of the economics of it all. The fuel cell recombines the hydrogen with oxygen from the air in the reverse process to directly produce electricity achieving the same end product as combustion, pure water. The unfortunate part of that is the whole process is not very efficient end to end. There are other sources of hydrogen but it's debateable as to their renewable credentials. They are sometimes referred to by a colour other than green, i.e. "blue hydrogen". I've heard this recently on the news in the UK for hydrogen produced via a chemical reaction between methane gas and steam producing carbon monoxide and hydrogen with the carbon monoxide being further burnt to a dioxde and captured and stored (CCS). If it's not stored it's "grey" apparently. This is rather similar to the old days of coal gas but hopefully without sulphurous impurities. Any CCS projects need a lot of scrutiny...

About nuclear physics: Nuclear fission splits an atom in two and releases energy. Nuclear fusion combines two atoms into one, also releasing energy. I don't get how they're doing the opposite thing but getting the same release of energy. What am I missing?

In my neighborhood, northern Vermont, it's not uncommon to see winter temperatures drop below -25*F at some point during winter, even -35*F. When camping in the forest, during these very cold temperatures, I will hear the trees make loud sounds, a striking pop, like a gun shot or the breaking of a large branch, as the bark/tree adjusts to the extreme cold, with a frequency of every hour or more. Aside, firefighters in my area are talking about how to put out a fire in an electric car after an accident.

Instead of leaving a question, it is okay just to leave a random bad pun? We can never exactly determine the total amount of ice in an iceberg. This is known as the “ice-in-berg uncertainty principle”.

Did Toyota talk at all about how their fuel cell vehicle would work in freezing temperatures? Just wondering if there would be freezing issues with the waste water ejection system, or reduced efficiency in cold weather.
