Super Duper Important Poll #1

As we all know MGA is coming to an end in a couple of updates so until that happens let's decide some things together about the new game (No spoilers of course). I hope to have a working demo in February but we'll see about that.

Would you like the new game to be a visual novel or keep the RPG engine?

Let me explain a bit... Visual novel would make it easier for me, not having to worry about the map, the character sprites, events and so on. However I do find that the RPG engine leaves room for more immersion and it's more versatile (also possible hidden quests and side quests) . I also feel like there is more freedom at hand with an RPG engine than there is with a visual novel. On the other hand you can skip scenes and text faster with a VN... Decisions decisions. I'm good to go either way that's why I'm opening this poll but I must say that I'm more skilled with RPG than with VN but I'm down to go for it if that's the majority vote!

Let me know what you think!

I would say do a VN for your next game and alternate between the 2. Can you still have hidden scenes in a VN they would only unlock with certain choices made by the player. i am good either way, so long as requested scenes come back after v0.2

This poll seems to come up often. And I usually always vote for RPG for one reason- animations. Since your game has them (and while I'm sure they are a pain in the ass!), they seem to be much smoother and realistic in RPG (especially in ACE). But by all means, do what is easiest for you, but IMO I prefer RPG, as I really don't mind the walking around. I do wish you could advance the text faster (esp read text).

There are some aspects of RGP which I will always like such as quests, walking around area, and like you said "immersion". However, it can be difficult to navigate within some RPG games if the map/area is too large. Also, having to kill rats & bats within RPG games is never something that I enjoy. I prefer VN with a map of how to see different locations and options on how to travel to those locations such as with Man of the House. The killer for me with VN is how you navigate within a room or building, and room icons or something similar can be very helpful. I'm not a developer at all so I only ask this out of ignorance, but is there a hybrid option to combine VN and RGP or is that too cumbersome?

i appreciate having the chance to vote, and i voted vn, but at the end of the day you are the creator and should do what you feel most happy with. i'm sure that people will still follow your work if they like the story, regardless of what engine you choose to use.

What a quandary? Like you said RPG you can have Quests but depending on software you can gain saves. Like Abyssal said MGS would have been better as a VN. As something you may not know there is a parameter that you can change to get up to 120 saves with RPG Maker. Doing a search you might find some help on how to do it. You also check out some of Mysta' s post on eak's game pages. As for my vote is depended on what you are playing for the game. Multiple quests or some battle scenes RPG, just story with choices then a VN. But really its what ever works best for you.

More visual novel less rpg.

Even tho I enjoyed the rpg aspect of the game I still voted to get rid of the rpg element. I felt that the rpg element did enhanced the game for the better but it did get pretty old after the 6th or 7th play through of a new build. After a few builds I found myself waiting for a few builds before I would play it again. what I can suggest is make it into a visual novel then when your completed with it you could turn it into an rpg with new content, new paths and new choices.

Well some might find walking around a part of the immersion process. Fells more real if you ask me then simply jumping from image to image. But I guess everyone has their own taste.

Get rid of that RPG Engine, as it had no use in MGA except being annoying; possibility for saves only in RPG mode, no forwarding in the text, no real use of RPG elements (stats, items, skill, etc.), only lame walking around and stretching the game time. Or implement a real RPG feature.
