If you see Sam pop up in an episode with a random cast or sling or bandage or eyepatch or whatever with no setup in a prior episode, it's probably because Jared was behaving like a 12 year old on or off set and legitimately hurt himself. Sometimes they try to hand wave it away with a couple lines of dialogue. But Jared is really not the most coordinated thing on two legs. There have been stories told at conventions that boggle the mind.
