Considering "Suspending" Some Reactions
Added 2020-07-22 19:08:30 +0000 UTCHey everyone,
If you guys have seen, lately episodes of Avatar and FMA:B are not doing very well (moreso FMA:B). The highest episode of FMA:B "recently", as in this year (at 900 views) is from around Christmas. Most reactions at minimum are over 200 views, but the last few have been high 100, low 100 and even under 100.
Avatar has gone from 1.3k, 1.9k, 1.7 to 900 and only 570 for the first reaction of the finale. Usually the highest episodes for a reaction will be the first ones, and the last ones. Avatar is doing better compared to FMA:B, but I have concerns.
Kaguya Sama Love is War's highest Season 2 reaction was 4.k views, and every week it was pulling in over 1k. FMA:B is considered to be one of the most popular anime of all time, but if FMA:B is doing badly, I have worries about Madoka Magicia and Steins;Gate. It's not about the views - ultimately, Patreon pledges give me more then views will ever give me. $10 from one person is more compared to 100 views or even 1,000 views would get me if these videos were monetized.
But I am not at the point where Patreon could sustain me fully. Patreon basically gives me the same amount as a minimum wage job. It's disheartening to put in this much work and not get a lot back from it. I've been working "full time" since quarantine with little to show from it, and it makes me feel sad about recording anymore reactions. I want to grow the channel, and I thought me pre-recording these anime reactions would do that, but it's just not working. I've gotten much more success with random, unplanned videos like news videos, my Hazbin Hotel reaction I did. And I didn't get any money from that Hazbin Hotel reaction, but my concern is that I will drive away the people who subscribe for Hazbin Hotel and Miraculous by "spamming" them with FMA:B and anime reactions with a timer, when they don't watch my reactions in that format because Miraculous and Hazbin can be shown on screen. I think maybe I should focus on game reactions and stuff I can show on the screen for the time being.
I don't know how many people pledge for Kaguya Sama because I didn't do early access for those shows. But I've just been thinking that it may not be worth it to do Steins;Gate or Madoka right now. Instead it may be a better idea to wait for Attack on Titan Season 4 instead (for my 25 episode anime), and wait for RWBY which would be the 12 episode anime.
I may try to look into Vimeo, so that when these new shows come out I can do a redirect on top of a reaction - a timer reaction on YouTube and a regular reaction with video on Patreon, and that will be what $5 patrons get. I want to talk to Arnold about setting this up. But I think doing "old shows" may be put on pause for a while.
I need to accept that I do not have a committed enough fanbase that people are willing to watch a timer reaction for old shows. I do have a committed enough fanbase that people are willing to watch a timer reaction for these new shows like Kaguya Sama, with a relatively alright like to dislike ratio. But I think I need to be a bigger channel before people will be willing to watch these older shows.
These are just some thoughts. Nothing is set in stone yet, I just want to hear what you guys think about this.
