Stereo VS Condenser Mic - Zoom H6

Finally got around to making this - it's a bit of a mess I apologize. I recorded a bunch of different sounds and ASMR triggers with these two microphones and their respective windscreens. (The foam one belongs to the stereo mic, the fuzzy one to the condenser mic - or, according to my fiance, hat vs wig XD). Originally I tried to do them all with and without wind screens but these microphones are so sensitive that you can't even breathe near them, so I spared you the painful popping noises and just cut those bits out. As you listen along, if you find a sound you particularly like, you can just look at the screen and see which mic is responsible for that. What the triggers are is written in text in front of each segment. At least in my editing brain that's the front. It's at the start XD

If you find a specific sound that one does better than the other, let me know - and also which one you like best overall.

Ok knock yourselves out - ha see what I did there?

Stereo VS Condenser Mic - Zoom H6

Comments

For the soft spoken/whispering and the Urban soundscape I'd give the hat the edge, the wig one - while having a crisper sound, seens to have a lot more white noise in its recording. The wig gets the point at the feather brushing, it sounds a bit like ocean waves and yay for the ocean. Hat again for the gentle blowing on the mic, it kinda sounds like distant thunder. The rustling noises is a tough one. I personally enjoyed the hat one the most because it sounded like the crackling of a fire but if you're after a more plastic-y sound, the wig would get the point. Tapping was difficult, no real favourites there, the same with book page flipping. Water pouring again the hat one. For the crinkling either the wig or the stereo mic without the hat^^ Sparklers: The stereo mic without it's windscreen has the crispest sound, however I enjoy the soungs of the wig more. Tissue folding again the hat. No real favourites with the bottle cap sounds, the only one I didn't really like was the condenser mic without its wig. Brushing with the fluffy brush: the wig. The sound isn't as harsh as the hat one and I find it far more relaxing. I like the hand lotion sounds best with the hat one, they almost get completely drowned out by the white noise (or the thunderstorm?^^) with the wig one. So overall I like the stereo mic with its windscreen best in most cases except for the direct brushing of the microphone. In that case the condenser wig takes it. I hope that wasn't to long ;)
