NEW VIDEO: Smoking is Awesome

We need to have an honest conversation about smoking:
The problem with smoking is that it is way more than just a physical addiction.

Smoking creates a temporary problem and offers an instant solution. Once your brain is used to nicotine, for up to 72 hours you are itchy, nervous, and stressed – but one drag and instantly, you feel really good.

It also helps you focus and take breaks during work, while suppressing your appetite.

So why is it such a bad idea?

very good topic, thank you. Just a personal feedback to the animation: i don't feel connected to the faces of everything (including people) in the last videos. I might be conservative, but i find the new way of animation uglier than it used to be. I watched the classical "ducks" on the Patreon trailer "What Makes Kurzgesagt So Special?" and that was the old good nice animation we all know.

I want an alcohol one with the same quality and neutral "here is what happens to your body," no preaching, just facts!

My guess is most of those are not as blindingly obviously ridiculously one-sided as smoking, so it will require nuance. But that is why I give Kurgesagt money every month. You (collectively) are better at explaining nuance topics than nearly anyone else on YT.

This could be a whole series - Alcohol, pot, caffeine, sugar, even stuff like Adderall or "illegal" drugs.

As a kid raised by two smokers who tried countless methods to quit, I think this video undersells a key aspect of smoking: self-medication. People with ADHD are over-represented in the smoking population. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2758663/ People on the Autism spectrum report that it helps temper sensitivities. https://neuroclastic.com/nicotine-addiction-the-issue-for-autistics-that-goes-by-the-wayside/ A lot of the initial therapies focused on replacing cigarettes with nothing. The more successful ones used a replacement nicotine source (gums, patches, etc). But if you drilled into the people who really struggled to quit, they had some life dependence on the nicotine hit. That included my parents. But at the end of the day, I think we need to tackle the issue of "cigarettes" separately from the issue of "nicotine usage". Cigarettes are terrible for you, but nicotine is helping a lot of people cope with life. We should probably figure out that last part.
