New Video: The Man Who Invented A Single Weapon To Destroy The World

At the height of the Cold War, a terrifying concept emerged: a bomb so powerful it wouldn’t need to be dropped. Known as Project Sundial, this doomsday device would have left a 400-km radius in flames and plunged the world into darkness. It was a bomb that would destroy everything – not a weapon, but an apocalypse. How close did we come to pressing the button?

Fascinating video. I hadn't heard this story before. I'd love a less doom-and-gloom more weird-science follow up. How about a video on Project Orion, and NERVA, the two nuclear powered spaceship drives that got worked on during the cold war? There's a wonderful story in there of scientists who had worked on the Manhattan Project, wanting a chance to prove that their invention could also be used for the betterment of humanity, not only for destruction. They wanted to show that nuclear power could be the key to humanity reaching Mars and beyond. As George Dyson noted in his TED talk about Project Orion, it remains one of the only answers we have to an earth-buster asteroid. After he published his book, NASA got in touch with him to recover information they'd lost about the project. And NERVA is back on the drawing board to see if scientists can make it work now, even though it wasn't ready in the 1950s and 1960s. DRACO picks up where NERVA left off, and could be tested as early as 2026.

Phenomenal video. Soundtrack reminded me a lot of the music during intense/complicated scenes in Westworld. Same kind of existential tension. Great work!
