Weekly Update 03.19.18

A busy week ahead, but not as busy as last week (and I got quite a bit done last week).

Will be posting page 3 of STRESS RELIEF in a few minutes. Page 4 is all sketched out and ready for hard lines. Want to get the pages 5 and 6 figured out as well. Once the “action” starts up, layout gets pretty complicated.

So how does one layout an… “action” scene? Well let’s see…

First there’s the story board; I do a bunch of rough (really rough) sketches of what I want to see happen and I put them in the order I want them to go (sometimes it helps to start at the end and work backwards). Once that’s done I break them into groups, creating several shorter sequences. Each sequence is broken down further until it’s short enough to fit on a page. Then I arrange it into panels panels in a clear and logical way. I am convinced that this is an art form in itself, one that I still struggle with. I can do it, but boy it takes a long time. ^^;

In other news, I want to write a D&D campaign that I can DM for my wife and friends. My wife always DM’s and never gets to play, so I’m going to give her the chance to take a break and play the game. It will be a while before it happens (I’m still learning the rules the hard way) but I have an idea that I think will be a lot of fun. Kind of a D&D murder mystery.

The other thing I really want to do is try The Call of Cthuhlu roll playing game. I’m a big Lovecraft fan and have some fun ideas for a campaign.

Also, my wife found this website heroforge.com where you can get custom miniatures made. A friend of mine just got one made of her character and it looks great (she painted it herself). I think I’ll be getting one for myself at some point. Bet my wife would love one for her birthday. :)

Alright, lots to do so let’s make it good! Have a great week everyone!

Comments

I expect nothing less from something with Lovecraft’s name on it. Though I’ve heard some fun home brew ideas. Scooby-doo vs. the old ones and whatnot.

Word of warning about Call of Cthuhlu...if you play it right everyone will eventually end up going mad so don't invest too much love into your characters! Of course if you enjoy that style of 'expendable player characters' game then i recommend you also check out Paranoia (preferrably the XP edition and don't touch Fifth Edition with an 11 foot pole!)

The other RPG I’d recommend- with the caveat that you want to pre-order the *second* edition, not buy the first- is Scion. Basically, Percy Jackson the RPG, except it’s not just the Roman/Greek Gods you're playing the children of.

Mini Meg as a gift. That sounds funny and adorable.
