BORN pg 4 Flats...

...the tedious part.  Fortunately, this is the stage where I can listen to an audiobook or a podcast, cause I don't have to concentrate too hard.

Been listening to some game sessions of the Call of Cthuhlu tabletop RPG and it's been a lot of fun!  Slowly piecing together some ideas for my own campaign.  Still need to order the book. ^^;

In Call of Cthuhlu the DM is called The Keeper.  That is so metal. :)

Glad you're liking it! Will see if I can't share a bit more with the next page. Will be posting the .psd file later today. :)

Comics are definitely a different beast, be they color or grayscale. I find page layout to be the most difficult part. All my images are 8.5”x12” at 300 dpi. I base this off of the manga template from Ka-Blam.com where I get my books printed. I have done comics at 600dpi but it doesn’t seem to make a big difference. If the pages were full color, it might be a different story. The .psd of this page should be up later today. Striking that perfect balance so far as scale is concerned is a bit of a knack that you’ll have to figure out through play and experimentation. I still struggle with it, but it doesn’t show as much as it did in my earlier work. This is one of the reasons I’m excited to switch to full digital (that and I won’t have to do pencils and scan as much). Here’s a trick I do for line art that might help. Not sure if you’re doing the line art in the computer or scanning it in. If you scan it in, scan it at 300dpi. Adjust levels and then use Filter>Noise>Median. Set Median to about 2. This will smooth out the lines and help eliminate artifacts and speckling from scanning. The trade off is it may muddy up some of the finer details, but give it a try. I’ll need to play around a bit but I’ll see if I can’t capture a few more details when I start the next page. Maybe I can capture some video or something. Would be worth sharing. Hope I was able to answer your question or help a bit. Best of luck and let me know how it goes!

Thanks for showing us your process from rough sketches to this stage! I recently wrote a script for a 24-page comic (with panel descriptions, dialogue, sound effects, etc.), and am still finding it difficult to translate it into just the first stage of thumbnail sketches. So it's nice to see your process and how you do your work. I haven't used a digital tablet or software to draw (although I've used Paint to touch up scanned drawings). But I can easily see how useful they would be for a professional artist, or even for an amateur who does a lot of comics and artwork.

No worries! Once this page is done I’ll be releasing the full .psd file. That should give you all the details your looking for. I typically only post .psd files for color images, although I forgot to post it for the previous image. I may start releasing them as a batch at the end of the month.

Hopefully I didn't just make myself look like a dummy. It may be because I'm mobile right now, but I realized the reward tier I'm in says it offers psd's, I just didn't see one in the downloads. Just looking at that would probably answer just about everything without you having to trouble yourself. Haha

Question from a developing comic artist if you've got a moment! I've been doing digital drawing/painting for a while, but I've found transferring to the format of comics is a rather different beast. Mostly in terms of panel arrangement and canvas scaling. I love seeing your process because it helps me figure out how to streamline things myself! Plus your art style is a very appealing hybrid of simplicity and detail. If you don't mind, I would love to know if you have a go-to canvas size/resolution? I'd normally just download the picture but I'm not sure if downloading through Patreon will get me an accurate account of the conditions you actually make them in. Basically, I've found that drawing in my usual higher resolutions makes the comic lines feel too whispy and thin. But compensating with larger brushes felt blotchy. It feels nicer drawing on smaller resolutions, but now it leaves small details looking rather bad. If you have a spare moment to offer your insight, it'd mean a lot!
