Devlog Optimization and Ideas
Added 2024-03-13 01:22:18 +0000 UTCHey guys, following through with my word of doing one devlog between each update, this time I will talk about the game itself and my plans.
When I started this game, one thing was important to me: making it intuitive. But, since i never developed a game before and my coding skills sucks, I had a hard time figuring this out. I came up with icons to indicate directions, but as the game expanded with more locations and variables, this approach became less effective. So, I decided to go back and try to improve this aspect of the game.
Ideas:
- Display the required affection level to progress in Oliver and Linda's routes. This will give players a clear goal, and sometimes i get comments from players who don't know how to trigger the next quest. this will give them more information
- A cleaner look. Standardize image borders and fonts, eliminate unnecessary repeated dialogue, and adjust the placement of certain locations in the game, such as Mayazon.
- Introduce additional icons and visual cues, provide more information in the journal, and incorporate a player profile.
I believe this will be an ongoing process of optimizing the game until it's smooth.
Characters interection: Another significant aspect of the game for me was creating a chill experience focused on character interactions. That's why most of the quests are slice-of-life, with occasional deviations into more intense scenarios. I want the characters to be integral to the story, and make the player form connections with them and find comfort in spending time together. so i was thinking how i could make this better
Ideas:
- Cellphone: You will receive messages, images, etc., from the characters as you progress in the game. This is something I've wanted to implement for a while, but I encountered coding problems and put it on hold. However, I'm planning to revisit it.
- More random events throughout the world. These events shouldn't just be for H-scenes but also simpler interactions to show how the characters interact with the world.
- Benefits when players spend time with the characters, they won't just see scenes but also gain something useful in the game, like money or Maya points, or even self-care.
I hope this wasn't too boring to read, but for those who made it this far, I plan to finish this new update around 03/20. It might take a few more days than that, but I'll make a more official post with previews when the date is closer.
